Sources and article status
[edit]This appears to be a genuinely encyclopedic (and interesting) historical curiosity; however it could do with more sources (preferably inline citations). I also wonder if it should be merged to an article on the region, perhaps Madawaska County, New Brunswick. Thoughts? --kingboyk 12:56, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Kingboyk. Noticed your changes, and left you a note on your talk page before I saw this. I noticed you had removed some of the refs, and was wondering why. There is precious little on this, although I have found a bit. The one article referenced previously was a published article, with text (in English) on the linked site. Don't know about the merger, as the République took up parts of Madawaska county NB, but also parts of what is now upstate Maine (Aroostook couty, I think), and Québec. I'll check the other article. - I agree with Esseh that the area includes Maine and should not fall under the Madawaska county region. The culture of the area has a significant independent attitude that likes to believe they are not in the U.S. or Canada (personal interviews in the Mosher book sited in the Acadian page). I think the article should reference the Acadians whom colonized the area. I have recently added a small reference to the Madawaska Republic on the Acadian page. Visit the Michaud website in the source list on the Acadian page. --Broecher (talk) 02:36, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
