I know Richie Blackmore use hurdy gurdys a bit on the Blackmore's Night records. Anyone know exactly on which tracks?
Proposal to structure this article into sections.
[edit]Hello everyone; I have come across this article today and made a couple of contributions (to the entry about 'Andy Irvine'), then realized that more work is needed on this article, because it currently looks like a wall of words. We could consider various structuring approaches: by nationality (which would be the easiest) or by music style. Then, within each new section, we could list the artists in alphabetic order, which is also a little easier on the eye. If there is general agreement about such an approach, then I'd be very happy to do the work but, in the spirit of consensus, would not wish to undertake such a drastic transformation without the blessing of a few other editors. Thank you for letting me know what you think (either here or at my Talk page). With kind regards for now; Patrick. ツ Pdebee. (talk) 13:38, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello again, everyone; After a first pass at the list (I still need to double-check the nationality of several artists), here is a possible first draft structure for the sections:
- Australia
- Austria
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Italy
- Japan
- Morroco
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- UK
- USA
- Multinational compilations
- ...
- In films:
- I'll update the above as I complete the double-checking.

- Hello again, everyone; I hope nobody will mind that I decided to go ahead with implementing the above-mentioned re-structuring of this article, which is now organized by country of origin (in alphabetical order) and with all the previously featured artists/bands, now also re-listed in alphabetical order. [I added 'Italy' and 'Hungary' as empty section headings, even though there were no artists listed in the earlier version of the article; I think future editors will probably find artists and works to add for these two countries.]
- I also tried to improve a few other things here and there, mainly the consistent use of italics for the titles of works. I will now probably want to apply a standard format for each entry on the list and enrich it with wikilinks and other references, so as to make it read as if the whole article had been written by a single editor.
- If anyone should object, then please by all means feel free to do a blanket edit reversal of all my changes prior to discussing and agreeing a different approach, if one is deemed preferable. [Honestly, I really don't mind, since anything will be better than the previous version of the article.]
- With kind regards for now; Patrick. ツ Pdebee. (talk) 21:34, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello again everyone; OK, I have applied as much tidying up as I could, for now. I'll probably come back from time to time to flesh out some of the entries which could still be made clearer or more complete. If anyone objects to what I've done so far, then simply edit-reverse whatever offends. With kind regards for now; Patrick. ツ Pdebee. (talk) 10:58, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Added the hyphen in 'hurdy-gurdy'.
[edit][Below is the text I entered yesterday in the talk page of the main article on the hurdy-gurdy.]
Well, after keeping this in the back of my mind for quite awhile, I decided today that it was time this Wikipedia article conformed to the spelling of 'hurdy-gurdy' according to the Oxford English Dictionary. It was easy to apply all the changes to this article and its associated article, Recordings featuring the hurdy gurdy, except that now I must also get the titles of both articles renamed, along with that of the disambiguation page, and also the category: {{commons category|Hurdy Gurdy}}, prior to correcting the spelling of the word 'hurdy-gurdy' in some (but not all) of the other articles accessible from the DAB page.
I will keep updating the present section as I make progress.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 11:19, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Finland
[edit]The band Korpiklaani from Finland plays the hurdy-gurdy in the music video for the song Rauta. I'm not sure how to add them. Lilmissbitty (talk) 14:01, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- metal-archives.com mentions hurdy gurdy on Rauta and Metsälle, both on the Manala album. I was hoping to find out who played it but no success yet. --Northernhenge (talk) 17:41, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
