Updates
[edit]Updated my father's entry a little. I hope to add more later on. --GwydionM 19:48, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Tidied and improved 'Publications', as well as adding individual entires for some of the books. Also corrected some of the links, like 'Cobbet' and 'Orwell' that led to the subject-matter rather than the specific book. --GwydionM 21:12, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
I added Paul Jones's 2004 book to the bibliogrpahy. It's a good one. 81.108.55.78 18:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Further Identification
[edit]I am certain that this article refers to THE Raymond Williams (i.e. the most prolific and well-know), but I am having some trouble connecting some other works by possibly other Raymonds.
Did he have a middle name and did he ever use it (or an middle initial)?
Was he the same Raymond Williams who was London Correspondent for The Nation? Samatva 21:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Raymond Henry Williams, though the middle name was never used. Nicely spotted, and I will fix the main article.
- As for The Nation, unlikely. Giving a date would help, though.
- There is also an unconnected 'Raymond Williams' who wrote about Analogue Computers. He's indexed in the cataglogue of the British Library, I saw him there ages ago. --GwydionM 18:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]A set of useful enhancements to the article about my father. You're wrong on one small point, the preparation of his last work, which I am revising.
It would be nice if you registered and became a regular contributor. (Assuming there isn't some sound reason you can't.) People get inherently suspicious of unregistered contributors, a lot of whome do damage.

Birthplace
[edit]While this article has Llanvihangel Crucorney, other sources say nearby Pandy, thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Declan Clam (talk • contribs) 04:08, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Two names for the same place.--GwydionM (talk) 17:44, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
references
[edit]The Wikipedia editors are quite right to point to the lack of citations. For anyone who is concerned it is clear that this entry is written by a group of people who know the work of Raymond Williams very well. Citations would be to some of their own books... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.42.123.43 (talk) 21:19, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
External links
[edit]I work for Special Collections and Archives, Cardiff University. We hold most of Raymond Williams’ published output - including translations into other languages - all from his personal library. I'd like to add an external link to our resource page for this collection in order to help researchers locate this material, but am aware this may be perceived as a conflict of interest due to my employment. If someone can add the content below, or give me the ok to add it, that would be great. Thanks!
The Raymond Williams' book collection is housed at Special Collections and Archives, Cardiff University. Darkivist (talk) 10:09, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
- Added, as no objections. Darkivist (talk) 14:06, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Not a pacifist.
[edit]Someone added this as a category, along with many other changes that were useful.
Nowhere did he ever call for pacifism of apologise for having fought in World War Two.
Or criticise those he saw as fighting for a good cause.
He did claim to be a conscientious objector to avoid being sent to the Korean War. But I'd assume this was an excuse to avoid a war he strongly objected to. No one seems to have written this up properly, though it would make a good story.
I write as the youngest of his three children, so I know exactly what he believed. --GwydionM (talk) 12:19, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
