About the contested prod

[edit]

I became aware of this page from the note at the atheism WikiProject, and I also had some concerns about page notability. It might be a good idea to rename the page with a title that is not a question. That question in the title makes the page sound like it has a WP:NOTESSAY problem. Also, I wonder whether the content is redundant with other pages that deal with philosophy. Has anyone checked that? --Tryptofish (talk) 21:20, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

if I had found it anywhere else, I would not have made this page. This is the standard phrasing of the question, but I think there are other articles titled with things like “Question of” or “Problem of”.... This one is actually something of a classic. Just Google “who created God“ in regular Google or in books or in Google scholar. There are whole books by that name. Pandeist (talk) 22:05, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And it is a separate question from a existence. Even presuming existence, there remains a question of whether something else could have created it. Pandeist (talk) 22:29, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looking around, there are pages on Ex nihilo, Nothing comes from nothing, and Turtles all the way down, that are related, but I think I am comfortable with the idea that this page covers a distinct and standalone topic.
I still would like to consider a page rename. I note that the lead sentence refers to "Creator of God", and I tend to think that either that, or "Problem of the creator of God" might be better page names. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:06, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that the lead section needs to cite sources, so that there are no issues of WP:OR. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:21, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am fine with that. As noted sources can be measured by tonnage. Pandeist (talk) 23:38, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean that a page rename would be fine with you? If so, do you have a preference between Creator of God and Problem of the creator of God? --Tryptofish (talk) 23:41, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe Creator of God problem. I think that one may be my first choice. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:50, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would go with Problem of the Creator of God. Pandeist (talk) 23:52, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine with me. But I think that "creator" should be lower case, OK? --Tryptofish (talk) 23:55, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but doesn’t it seem odd that we would capitalize God, and not capitalize something by definition greater so as to be its creator? Pandeist (talk) 00:07, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with that argument is that it is WP:OR. "God", in contrast, is capitalized by convention. I think that lower case would be more consistent with Wikipedia:Article titles#Article title format. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:18, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Move  Done. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:10, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Man created god

[edit]

Please include the hypothesis that man created god, i.e. religion and concepts of god are social constructs, nothing more than stories. Thanks! --Lbeaumont (talk) 23:27, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Premise of the argument is that absence of an explanation for how God came to exist is an argument against God. "Man created God" would be relevant if framed as man creating an actual God, not a fictional one. Hyperbolick (talk) 07:34, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

very poor content

[edit]

considering how much quality answers and discussions have been had around this topic it is not mirrored here at all. Just [Who created God] compiles a very good list of replies across the board. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.0.96.244 (talk) 14:04, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

don't forget this is just a wiki article. insofar it gives first abbreviated insight into a certain topic, it is up to every reader to possibly look further, much further even, into the topic. Thus it is not "very poor content", as said in headline by author themselves "(article) compiles a very good list.....across the board". 159.2.149.98 (talk) 11:22, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Anybody can add anything fitting for the page. Go for it. Hyperbolick (talk) 22:59, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
