The result of the move request was: page moved. (non-admin closure) —innotata 05:43, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Postcards → Postcards (disambiguation) – Per WP:PLURALPT. I see nothing on this page to dissuade me from thinking that the clear primary topic of the term is the singular, Postcard, which the other uses are intended to invoke. bd2412 T 22:13, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Copied and pasted per the editor's request: Support - and feel free to copy paste this support onto all similar moves. I think this is now a case for use of technical move rather than full RM. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:16, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose this one. The dab page shows that "Postcards" is used for a healthy number of things separate from the singular. It's thus more helpful to our readers to keep this as a separate dab page, per WP:PLURALPT. Dohn joe (talk) 13:47, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- Reiterate support. While there are albums, okay, postcards small p obviously means postcards, which people multiply write and send. Hence the albums names also being plural because postcards are often written and sent pluraly. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:11, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- Comment. This move request was closed, and that closure was reversed based on (in my view) erroneous objections raised by the lone opposing editor to the closer, outside the context of the discussion. I will directly address those objections here. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC sets forth two criteria for determining the primary topic of a title, page views and long term historical importance. The singular topic, postcard, is a topic with a history that goes back over 170 years. Postcards have never flagged in importance since their commercial introduction; they have served as historical documents for people ranging from the rich and famous to humble foot soldiers in muddy trenches. Their place in history is so ingrained that a number of artists have named their works "Postcard" or "Postcards" in order to invoke the popular topic of the postcard. Nevertheless, these works are of much less importance than the topic for which they are named, and are of much less interest to our readers. In the past 90 days, pageviews for topics in Wikipedia named "Postcards" are as follows:
- Postcard has been viewed 32335 times
- Postcards_(memorial) has been viewed 2218 times
- Postcards_(novel) has been viewed 993 times
- Postcards_(TV_series) has been viewed 1721 times
- Postcards_Records has been viewed 284 times
- Postcards_(Cindy_Morgan_album) has been viewed 215 times
- Postcards_(Peter_Ostroushko_album) has been viewed 226 times
- Postcards_(Sparkadia_album) has been viewed 654 times
- I submit that even if the pop culture topics had more page views, the interest in properly representing the historical significance of the progenitor of all of these topics would predominate. In this case, however, asserted primary topic has had 32,335 page views in the same period as the more recent popular topics have combined for 6,311 page views, about 16% of the total. Therefore, by any measure, the primary topic here is the method of communication. bd2412 T 18:17, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- Once again. You cannot simply compare singular usage to plural usage. I've explained this many times. On WP, a singular topic can be expected to have 10-20 times the pageviews of the associated plural redirect when there are no other topics with the plural title. In this case, that would be 1,600-3,200 views. As the nom has shown, the various articles titled "Postcards" add up to 6,311, or nearly twice the high end of what we would expect the plural to get. That means the current dab serves our readers better than the proposed redirect. Dohn joe (talk) 18:43, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- You can't treat all plurals the same, either. For example, there is one Sun, so of course the plural Suns will not be searched by people looking for Sun. Postcards, on the other hand, are small physical objects that are readily discussed in the plural. The plural word "postcards" appears over 100 times in the article, just in describing the subject of the article. If our articles had plural titles rather than singular titles, there would be no question at all that the communication device would be the primary topic. bd2412 T 18:54, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
