"Portuguese suits don't match the drawings"?

I would suggest that the sentence "this is the reason why Portuguese names for suits do not match the suit drawings" be removed. It's true they don't; but then again, does "spades" really match the drawing? And indeed, "spades" most likely comes from the Spanish word for "swords" too, making it the same. Does "clubs" match its clover image - which, by the way, is the same word in Portuguese and English? ("Clubs" = "Paus", direct translation).

This sentence, which has no citation, is too categorical in saying "the names don't match"; compared to what? If "spades" really matched its drawing, it would have been "leaves". I find that the sentence in question has no place here. 85.240.173.83 (talk) 12:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
