Intro and Request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello editors! I'm Zach, a new Wikipedia editor and a representative of my employer, PLBY Group. I understand the rules for conflict of interest editors and I'm committed to following community standards. I've disclosed my COI in the banner above and on my user page. I will make suggestions here and avoid editing this article directly. My goals are to help volunteer editors by providing appropriate sourcing where there are gaps, and suggest changes or updates to information that is out of date or inaccurate. I understand that some edits I suggest may not be accepted, or may be altered by editors.
For a first request, I'd like to propose replacing this outdated language, which is presented in future tense:
- In October 2020, Playboy Enterprises’ has merged with Mountain Crest. Mountain Crest will be renamed and is scheduled to be classified on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the PLBY ticker and will be headed by Ben Kohn, Chief Executive Officer of Playboy.
Specifically, I suggest replacing with the following, which presents information is past tense:
- In October 2020, Playboy Enterprises merged with Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). On February 11, 2021, Mountain Crest was renamed PLBY Group, Inc. and began trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the PLBY ticker. PLBY Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries, including Playboy Enterprises, is headed by Ben Kohn, Chief Executive Officer, President & Director.[1][2]

Updates to History
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
In the History section, I propose changing "The company now derives over 40 percent of its revenues from its media division, and about half of the revenue comes from the licensing of consumer products", which is outdated, to "The company completed its shift to consumer products in 2020 with the shuttering of the magazine division, and now drives more than $3 billion in consumer spending annually across 180 countries.[1]"

There are many other sources verifying this claim, but I assume Barron's is acceptable. Additionally, I suggest removing the sentence "Meanwhile, the company says it will open at least three Playboy stores in each of the next three years", which is an outdated prospective claim copied verbatim from MSN.com. Not only might this text be a copyright violation, but I think the article should focus on completed store openings, not those which may happen in the future.
Thanks again for assistance updating the article on my behalf, PLBY ZG (talk) 17:27, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- PLBY ZG, I sense promotion in this phrase "and now drives more than....". I suggest changing it to "The company is now known to spend around...". Chirota (talk) 23:37, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Chiro725: Thanks for reviewing this request. The claim is about revenue earned not money spent. I'm fine not using the phrase "now drives more than" if you prefer "now generates more than $3 billion in consumer spending annually across 180 countries" or similar. If you're comfortable with this text, do you mind updating the article? Thanks again! PLBY ZG (talk) 22:01, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

- Much appreciated! I'm curious what you think about the second part of this request: I've proposed removing "Meanwhile, the company says it will open at least three Playboy stores in each of the next three years" which is an outdated claim. Also, I'm submitting another request below to update one of the rankings already mentioned in the article, if you're able to take a quick look. Thanks again! PLBY ZG (talk) 20:46, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Ranking update
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I'd like to submit another request to update this article on behalf of PLBY. Right now the page says "In 2013, Playboy ranked number 56 among the Top 150 Global Licensors by License! Global magazine." The company is ranked #17, as of 2020, but since the claim is difficult to verify, I'd like to propose updating the language to reflect the company's 2019 ranking. Please consider changing to the following:
- In 2019, Playboy ranked number 21 among the Top 150 Global Licensors by License! Global magazine.[1]

I'll let editors decide if the 2019 or 2020 ranking is preferred, but thanks for updating the page either way! PLBY ZG (talk) 20:46, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Lovers description
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello again! The above request is still needing review, but I'd like to submit another simple request. I propose changing: In February 2021, PLBY announced the acquisition of the sexual retailer Lovers for $25m in cash to In February 2021, PLBY announced the acquisition of the sexual wellness retailer Lovers for $25m in cash, which is a more accurate description of the company. Here's an example of use by Reuters, if helpful.
Thanks! PLBY ZG (talk) 16:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Introduction
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
Hello again! @Chiro725: Thanks for your help with the above requests. I hope you might be willing to review this one as well.
Here's the current introduction, which is more specific to PLBY Group than PLBY Enterprises:
Extended content
|
---|
PLBY Group, Inc. (formerly Playboy Enterprises) is an American global media and lifestyle company founded by Hugh Hefner to oversee the Playboy magazine and related assets. It is currently headquartered in Los Angeles, California.[1] The company is focused on four primary business lines: Sexual Wellness, Style & Apparel, Gaming and Lifestyle, and Beauty & Grooming.[2][failed verification] Today, PLBY Group, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the development and distribution of content, products and high-profile events that embody both "eroticism and fine art", alongside wellness[citation needed] and apparel retailing.[3] It is in the top twenty most licensed brands globally.[4] References

I propose replacing the introduction with the following, which is a similar summary but focused on Playboy Enterprises:
Playboy Enterprises (a subsidiary of PLBY Group, Inc.) is an American global lifestyle company originally founded as a media company by Hugh Hefner to oversee the Playboy magazine and related assets. It is currently headquartered in Los Angeles, California.[1]
The company is currently focused on consumer businesses in four categories comprising "The Pleasure Lifestyle": sexual wellness, style & apparel, gaming & lifestyle and beauty & grooming. The company operates owned businesses, joint ventures, and licensed partnerships (by licensing the Playboy name, Rabbit Head design and other trademarks, logos and images for use in connection with consumer goods, venues and events).

This introduction is more accurate and representative of the article body. If you agree, would you mind updating the page on my behalf?
Thanks! PLBY ZG (talk) 00:34, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Not done: As it stands, PBLY Group is synonymous with Playboy Enterprises, so i think that changing the intro is not necessary Quetstar (talk) 04:38, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Quetstar: Thank you for reviewing this request, but I am confused by your reply. The purpose of this request is to clarify the relationship between Playboy Enterprises and PLBY Group, and to have an introduction which starts with "Playboy Enterprises" since that's the name of this article. Can you please clarify what can be done here, or provide further explanation as to why the introduction I've proposed is problematic? Thank you. PLBY ZG (talk) 01:15, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- @PLBY ZG I declined your request for 2 reasons:
- The proposed intro is too similar to the current one and omits the fact that Playboy is still active in media (through Playboy Plus),
- Under longstanding WP policy, the legal name must be used before the business aka dba name, if applicable (for this article, that is "PBLY Group, Inc. dba Playboy Enterprises".)
- Hope that answers your questions and i encourage you to resubmit your request. If there is any problem with this response, feel free to tag me and I will see what can I do to sort it out. Quetstar (talk) 03:34, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
