People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

[edit]

Shouldn't the Animal Charity be the main redirect here?? Salamander4000 21:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. That's PETA in all caps. — Omegatron 05:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greek translation

[edit]

Feel free to revert but the Greek origin of Tera doesn't come from "monster", it is "immense" or "tremendous" by modern Greek. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.181.131 (talk) 20:39, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correct spelling of Peta?

[edit]

I notice that Seymour Cray, Supercomputer Architect used the spelling of Peda (actually Pedaflops) to describe 1000 teraflops. Why no mention of a change in spelling from Peda to Peta?

From Peta (prefix) to Peta for uniformity with all other SI prefixes. -- Armando82 12:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support

[edit]
  1. Support -- Armando82 12:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

[edit]
  1. Oppose - The target page is correctly a disambiguation page. Too many conflicting meanings (which isn't the case with other SI units). -- Beardo 20:26, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose There are many things that Peta is used for, and I don't think the SI prefix is the most dominant one. TJ Spyke 23:33, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose. I think People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is much closer to being the primary topic for that four-letter combination than this prefix is. Dekimasuよ! 11:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Oppose as simply the wrong thing to do. I think this should actually go back to some SI discussion to have all of these moved to xxxx- which may be a better standard. Vegaswikian 18:44, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other

[edit]
  1. All prefixes should be moved to hyphenated names. peta-, mega-, kilo-, and so on, like they would be found in a dictionary. — Omegatron 23:56, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting observation. Websters online has three entries; kilo, Kilo and kilo-. Vegaswikian 22:45, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved. --Stemonitis 17:38, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move2

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was PAGE MOVED per discussion below. I've moved all the standard SI prefixes (see Category:SI prefixes), updated a couple of templates, and snapped all the double redirects. There are still other prefixes in Category:prefixes that could be moved, but I think this will to for tonight. -GTBacchus(talk) 06:46, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peta (prefix)peta- All prefixes should be moved to prefix- titles, as this is the standard way prefixes themselves are talked about and listed in dictionaries, and so that the (prefix) disambig isn't needed. — Omegatron 02:19, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support

[edit]
  1. Support. Seems logical, avoids the need to dab any articles and matches usage in the actual articles. Vegaswikian 06:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support - I agree because dictionaries do so but please also note that SI brochure lists prefixes as "prefix" and not "prefix-". --Armando82 13:47, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support, since they aren't words in and of themselves, although completion of the request will take quite a bit of work. Dekimasuよ! 23:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the closing admin could do the moves on the others as uncontested if there remains strong support for these. Vegaswikian 05:45, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The closing is what I meant will be quite a bit of work. I'd have closed this as a move myself, but I don't have the time that will be required to go through and fix all of the other pages concerned. Dekimasuよ! 14:43, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"quite a bit of work": We will know how much work if someone replaces "etc" hereinabove by the full list of pages to be moved. Anthony Appleyard 20:43, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
