Name

[edit]

I'd favour renaming this article "Saddledome". No one cares which company currently owns its naming rights. -- Anon

Well, it's always dangerous to say "no one" but I take your point. On the other hand it is pretty widely known as the Pengrowth Saddledome even though many people (including myself) had no idea that Pengrowth was the name of a company -- at least I didn't until I read your note above. Derek Ross | Talk 19:13, 2005 Jan 29 (UTC)
Officially it is named Pengrowth Saddledome so that is what it should stay. There is precedence in many other arena articles. --Djsasso 19:19, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Yes and no. The trouble is that that official name could change tomorrow (as it has in the past). It's too temporary. The only part of the name which doesn't change as the years go by is the Saddledome part of it. Other arenas may need the corporate sponsor part of the name for disambiguation purposes but as far as I can see there's only one Saddledome... -- Derek Ross | Talk 19:27, 2005 Jan 29 (UTC)
Checking into it a little further, the Saddledome is actually run by the Saddledome Foundation whose board members include representatives from Calgary, from Alberta, from the Olympic committee, from the Canadian Hockey Association and from The Stampede Board. There is no representation from Pengrowth though. -- Derek Ross | Talk 19:39, 2005 Jan 29 (UTC)
Yes it could change tomorrow and at that time there should be a name change. Thats sorta what wikipedia is good for. Changing when things change, unlike a printed version. It doesn't change enough that its ever really an issue. Usually they sign contracts for such things for many years. For example it was supposed to be the Canadian Airlines Saddledome for like 15 or 20 years I forget the exact amount. Only reason it changed to Pengrowth was that Canadian went belly up. --Djsasso 22:13, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Article name change

[edit]

How do you change the name of the article to "Saddledome".......calling it the "pengrowth saddledome" is ridiculous, nobody will type into the search engine "pengrowth saddledome" --Vega007

I am against moving this page. However, if you want instructions to do this see Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page. I have created a redirect so that if anyone searches on "Saddledome", they come to this page. This addresses the search problem you noted. I am surprised that no one created this redirect before now. --JamesTeterenko 05:42, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
well i think a redirect is perfect, good job, no need to change the article name now, thanks -vega007
I had actually thought I already had...wierd...I must be getting old. --Djsasso 04:59, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Semi-protection...

[edit]

...is required for this article. Due to the incorrect changes to Scotiabank Saddledome. GoodDay (talk) 22:52, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi protection is not for good faith changes, even if misguided. Nor is there nearly enough misleading edits to justify it. Resolute 23:00, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevant info

[edit]

That other arenas are sponsored by Scotiabank seems to be at best tangential to this arena. Dbrodbeck (talk) 03:57, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. And the fact that companies sponsor multiple stadia is likewise hardly unique. Rogers Centre/Rogers Arena, Enmax Centre/Enmax Centrium, Credit Union Centre/Credit Union iPlex, There are two Toyota Center's and a Toyota Park. American Airlines Arena/American Airlines Center, and that's just off the top of my head. Ultimately, this article is about the building, not the sponsor. Resolute 04:03, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now, would those be Toyota Centres, or Toyotas Center? And a Pepsi Center and a Pepsi Centre (I lived in Corner Brook for a while...) Dbrodbeck (talk) 04:07, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We could take the concept off on a tangent as well. The TD Garden and RBC Center are the only two American-based NHL rinks sponsored by Canadian banks! Resolute 04:11, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
None of those arenas/stadiums are in the same league ! Two rinks sponsored by the same company in the same league was note worthy. It wasn't so much the removal of the info, it was your usual edit warring, article ownership, and refusal to BRD. Plus of course the meat puppetry to avoid 3RR in another one of your edit war. UrbanNerd (talk) 12:07, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Right...so when you do the same thing frequently its ok but when anyone else does it you call it edit warring and article ownership and refusal to brd? Oh and then you go an accuse another good faith editor of being a meat puppet. You know maybe you might eventually learn that its easier to talk about an issue you have on the talk page before you go reverting someone and edit warring? Often it works alot better. -DJSasso (talk) 12:10, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
UN, If you have an accusation, report it. You are behaving ridiculously. Please stop it, and discuss the issue. We have two people here that disagree with you. For the record, nobody contacted me, so I am nobody's puppet. Dbrodbeck (talk) 12:42, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and calling other editors dimwits in your edit summary is hardly a way to convince people that you, or your points, are reasonable. Dbrodbeck (talk) 13:17, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Truth is, UN, I could have reverted you one more time and we both would have been at the same three revert limit. The difference between you and I is that I stopped at two specifically because I had no interest in perpetuating an edit war, while you continued on because you have serious trouble accepting the fact that sometimes, your preferred changes don't have support. The fact that you have deluded yourself into believing Dbrodbeck was acting as a meatpuppet, rather than honestly agreeing that this was irrelevant trivia, speaks right to your bad faith attitude that has resulted in several blocks in recent months. But your bad faith attitude cannot overcome the fact that you do not have support for the inclusion of minor trivia. Resolute 13:45, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
