Difficulties with this article
[edit]I just came here from the Guild of Copyeditors, trying to deal with the backlog of articles. Unfortunately, this article is clumsily translated and I cannot get enough understanding of the topic to make a better copy. I would be happy to work with interested editors to make improvements, but I need someone who can tell me what a lot of this means. Reply here or on my talk page. - I revised the intro copy and based it on the translation from the Ukrainian and Russian article.
- The Ukrainian article is an exact copy of this article (in English) and it reads like a resume. The Russian article is redirected to the church, with no mention of his accomplishments. This is typical Russian treatment of something that doesn't pertain to them and doesn't mean that he is not worthy of an article.
- The notability of this person has not been established for an English language Wikipedia. A Google search for his name in Ukrainian comes up with 15,000 hits. If we decide to keep it, this article needs to be cleaned up and unrelated information should be deleted. I'm not sure that all his accomplishments are relevant to his position and belong in this article.
- The church is independent and not recognized by the Eastern Orthodox Church – this needs to go on the article for his church. This is not to discredit his accomplishments, but to explain that he doesn't have any authority over all of Ukraine, since the church is not recognized outside of Kyiv. Maybe someone with more knowledge can verify this.
- In my personal opinion, the first order of business should be to establish notability or nominate for deletion. USchick (talk) 02:35, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed, notability has to be established. If not then we can nominate for deletion and discussion Chaosdruid (talk) 02:43, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- According to this article, he worked in Detroit with people from the USSR, and he seems to have ties to the US, which may give him a reason to have an article on English Wiki. Not being recognized by the official church is not helping him, but he may be very influential for all we know. USchick (talk) 02:55, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- I suppose we should start by finding out what, if any, are inherently notable religious positions. For example the Pope I imagine to be notable as they would have received lots of secondary coverage. He also seems to go by the name of "Moisei Kulik" or "Moisey Kulik"
- There is also the Ukrainian v English problem, although a quick 10 minute search gave me [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
- The RISU ones are from the Ukrainian catholic university, I think it is near Lviv as the museum telephone number area code is (380-322)
- I think he is notable, if all of the 25 references check out, and if not then the events surrounding the excommunication and rape allegations would certainly validate notability.
- Admittedly the large mount of www.soborna.org refs are a cause for concern. Chaosdruid (talk) 11:35, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, all the controversy makes him notable! USchick (talk) 17:28, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
