It seems fairly obvious that Plutus is invoking Satan to threaten trespassers come to Hell. He sees Dante and Virgil and means to stop them by cursing at them, beginning "Oh Satan, Oh Satan, The Greatest!" when Virgil cuts him off, reminds Dante to have no fear, and they continue onward passing the guard.
Diacritics on "pape"
[edit]Why is there an acute accent on the "e" of "pape" in the title and article text? The quoted sample does not have it, and neither does the Italian version of the article. Some modern Italian readers seem to put the stress on the first syllable (pàpe rather than papé). --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 15:06, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
