Name of Show

Is it Pani Poni Dash or Paniponi Dash? I have the first DVD and it says "Paniponi Dask" although it could just be the art/grapics they used(to make it like that) Also on Comcast "On DEMAND" they have it listed as "paniponiDash" all one word exaclty like that. I am prety sure that was just a typo though...If "Pani Poni Dash" is not the correct title then change it. I think it is though, but please double check this. Seems like anime title is "Paniponi Dash!" but manga is "Pani Poni". It's "Paniponi Dash!" in the first episode, in some endings, in official site name (paniponi-dash.com), on the printed anime box cover (http://www.amazon.com/Paniponi-Dash-Complete-Box-Set/dp/B001OMZYE0) but "Pani Poni" on mange cover and in the titles in anime original story mentioned as "Pani Poni". About the pictures

Some of them have subtitles in them, I know. It is regrattable, but not unfixable. I hope you can forgive this for the time being. It should only be a short time until I can find a raw of episode 1, and upload the exact same shots, only without subtitles. There! See, I fixed everything. I went to a lot of trouble to put the captions onto the raw images. (The raw and the sub had different sizes, different color casts, and different sharpness levels, it would have been much too much trouble to simply overlay the already-captioned vitals boards onto the new images.)PiccoloNamek 08:49, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Minor characters

After someone went and added the minor characters section, I started wondering, what minor characters should be included, and how? What are the criteria? Should we include pictures for all of them? If yes, what about the space considerations? If no, could we include all of the minor characters? I'd like to add at least most of the more frequently occuring ones, such as Serizawa, Yuuna/Yuuma and Igurashi-sensei. I personally think that only the most frequently recurring and/or very notable minor characters should have images, and the rest could simply be listed, although even that might be a stretch because there are so many of them.

Another thought just occurred to me: Perhaps we could create a section for each classroom and list the characters from each?PiccoloNamek 04:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Also, if it is at all possible, the screenshots should be taken from the raw videos, because the subtitles are ugly and distracting. You can find them at leet-raws.PiccoloNamek 02:38, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't have access to the raw videos, so it's very difficult for me to take screenshots without some caption sneaking in. I try to look for instances without captions when it's possible, though. As for inclusion, I'm just trying to make it as inclusive as possible since not many stand out more than the others. For example, Behoimi (her especially, to the extent that she might even be considered a major character), Jijii, Akira, and Akane also get plenty of screentime. Great job! That's one of the best mass additions I've ever seen. I'll be making some minor adjustments, but I think you'll like them. I wouldn't worry too much about the images. One day it will probably be dubbed and a DVD will come out, and we can just take screenshots from those. Media

I went through the time between 5:50 and 6:20 frame-by-frame and saw that you can see her right eye only for TWO FRAMES at 6:17. Does this really count? You can't even see her pupils or irises, just a blank, white eye. I suppose if you want to be anal...PiccoloNamek 17:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I know what you mean; however, this is a very famous top secret in this work (you know, a 1/12-second-level-secret), and should not be ignored. I guess "マホ(Maho)" is originally "アホ(Aho)", means "FOOL" in Japanese language...(laugh) It may represent Himeko's strangeness or foolishness.

Anou, Sensei!

I've only seen the first few episodes so far, but several names get bleeped out a la Kill Bill. Is there a reason for it?

If you're talking about the name of the former homeroom teacher for class 1-C, it's probably for comedic effect. It's not really relevant to the story who their teacher used to be, so there's no real point to making up a character name. It could also be a parody reference to some movie, book or show? It was done to cover up references to other anime characters that they didn't have the rights to discuss by name. Or at least them doing this for comedic effect, or so that those companies don't sue.

Also, in the bomb episode, they removed a line telling you how to make explosives out of something found easily around the home.

About Becky's Family

Please listen to the beginning of episode one or two. The captain clearly indicates (both times!) that she was born to an American father and a Japanese mother.

Since the order of her name is also in contention, I would like to point out that both times it is written out in the series (once as shown in the thumbnail to the right, and once in episode 26 at ~10:38), it is "レベッカ 宮本". I think that's something the writers put in on purpose (I guess they are culturally aware?). Throughout the entire anime we are given to understand that her first name is "Rebecca", or "Becky". Her Japanese name would then be Miyamoto Rebecca.--Cless Alvein 02:09, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Also, the Japanese help page states that "western" texts adhere to the "first name, last name" rule - and because all the other characters have standard Japanese name orders, it seems that name order is only a matter of semantics. You can make it "last name, first name" to make it correct for a Japanese name, or "first name, last name" to make it correct for a western text. I would say "first, last", because that's how it's written both on the eyecatches I mentioned before and in the credits, and because that's how people say her name (such as ep. 1, ~1:02 and ep. 22, ~20:37), but it's not something I'm going to vigorously fight for. -- TangentCube -c 02:48, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

In Japanese language, Japanese person's name is written in Family name - Personal name order, while Western person's name is written in Personal name - Family name order. That's the convention (read: rule) in Japan. Things become more ambigius when a person is half Japanese and half Westerner, but it's still more common to write the name in "Western" order - PN, FN. This is why Becky's full name is written as "レベッカ宮本" (Rebecca Miyamoto) even in Japanese. In other words, "correct" order of her name in Japanese is Rebecca Miyamoto. No one in Japan calls her Miyamoto Rebecca, unless he/she is trying to sound funny.Kzaral 12:32, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

What Kzaral says is definitely right.

We Japanese call a person with western personal name in personal name - family name order, like "ダニエル井上(Daniel Inouye)". Besides, a person with western nationalities is also called in personal name - family name order even if he/she has a name in Japanese style like "カズオ・イシグロ(Kazuo Ishiguro)". So, Rebecca Miyamoto should be written "レベッカ宮本" in Japanese.

As you may know, we have two "official" guidebooks for the TV series here in Japan. The books say opposite to the narrations that explain the nationalities of Becky's parants.

And Becky herself says her father is a Japanese and her mother is an American in the manga.

I don't know which is right. Is this a minor mistake, or intentional confusion?

About Nozomi Ichijo and Miyabi Inugami

According to the original manga, Ichijo-san has two younger sisters.
As you know, the nameless, youngest one appears on the anime in episode 7 and so on.

The other one is Nozomi(望), a 5th grader. Though she is one of the important characters as Becky's best friend in the manga, she appears only on a playing card in the end credit of episode 18 and a poster on the background in episode 25 in the anime.

Tsurugi Inugami has a shy younger sister, too.
Her name is Miyabi(雅), a 5th grader. She is the best friend of Becky and Nozomi Ichijo in the manga, but she appears only on a playing card in the end credit of episode 18 and background of episode 25 in the anime, too.

I'd like to ask you how we treat these two characters. Do we have to write about them in this article, or ignore them because they didn't appear on the main storyline of any episodes in the anime?

These characters do not appear (at least, with any prominence) in Poni Poni Dash!, and for all intents and purposes, do not exist. Pani Poni Dash! is an anime show, and Pani Poni is a manga. I got it. If there is an agreement here that Pani Poni and Pani Poni Dash! are different, these two should'n t be added on this article as you say. I'll wait for Pani Poni article.

But wait! There are many characters that are not supported here, though they appear with diarogues for many times or played important rolls in the anime series. I guess we have to discuss on who should be added on the article. (Off course I've read the topic above, but more and more disscussions are needed, I guess.)

Giant salamander (オオサンショウウオ) ; episode 1, 5-8, 10-14, 16-20, 22-26.

Michael (ミカエル) ; episode 12, 25.

Racoon dog (タヌキ) ; episode 14, 18, 19, 26.

Zoola (ズーラ) ; episode 1, 3, 8, 14, 17-18, 20, 23-24, 26.

I guess we should add these characters, at least.

Neko Kami-sama or Neko Gami-sama?

How should we write "ネコ神様" in alphabets?
Ordinally, "神様" is pronounced "Kami-sama" in Japanese language. But if some noun is on the word "神様", it is sometimes pronounced "Gami-sama" like "女神様(Megami-sama,=Goddess)", "現人神様(Arahitogami-sama)" or "犬神様(Inugami-sama)".
In the Anime, "ネコ神様" is simply called "Kami-sama". It is written "ネコ神様" or "God" in official guidebooks published in Japan.
Does someone have a good idea?

The fansub by Oyasumi has translated it as Kami-sama, if that means anything. Their character list on the forums also lists him as Kami-sama.PiccoloNamek 16:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
