Discussion affecting the main title header of this article

[edit]

A proposal at discussion Talk:Ox (restaurant)#Requested move 28 February 2022 / Talk:Ox (Belfast restaurant)#Requested move 28 February 2022 posits that this article should be renamed Ox (Portland, Oregon)Ox (Portland restaurant). —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 16:46, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Roman Spinner Just know most articles about Portland, Oregon use "Portland, Oregon" within disambiguation since there are so many Portlands. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:46, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer Of course, the Portland disambiguation page confirms the large number of places named "Portland" but, although Portland, Oregon is not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the dab page, its city population of 652,503 is much greater than the combined population of all the other places named "Portland", to say nothing of the 2.512,859 population of Portland's metropolitan area.
Thus, there is no need for enhanced disambiguation for Portland within this particular parenthetical qualifier, taking into account that the form "Ox (Portland restaurant)" sufficiently disambiguates it from "Ox (Belfast restaurant)" [Belfast city population 341,877; metropolitan area population 671,559]. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 00:49, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Roman Spinner: I agree there is no need for additional disambiguation in this individual case, but I think it may be better to be consistent with the other articles by using "Portland, Oregon". I don't actually know but it seems like a good idea to me. Talib1101 (talk) 05:43, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Talib1101: Although Belfast is the primary topic of the Belfast (disambiguation) page, while Portland, Oregon is not the primary topic of the Portland disambiguation page, the articles in question are about the restaurants, not the cities, thus there indeed does not appear to be a need for additional disambiguation. As for consistency, the qualifier form "(Portland)" or "(Portland restaurant)" would be thus analogous to the qualifier form "(Belfast)" or "(Belfast restaurant)". —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 16:38, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose then maybe other articles about Portland restaurants could be changed over from Portland, Oregon, with the exception of those that are also in other Portlands. This would mean some would be (Portland) and some would be (Portland, Oregon) Talib1101 (talk) 21:20, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Ox" is not a restaurant chain. There are only two unrelated establishments named "Ox" — one is in Belfast and one is in Portland (the one in Reykjavik {with the diacritic} does not have a Wikipedia entry.) In the unlikely event that another notable culinary establishment in another place named "Portland" (Portland, Maine perhaps?) decides to use the name "Ox", then the proposed main title header "Ox (Portland restaurant)" can be revised. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 04:55, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I meant articles about other Portland restaurants using this naming convention. Talib1101 (talk) 23:44, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've moved this to (Portland restaurant) to align with the Belfast restaurant move, and (Portland restaurant) appears to have more support than (Portland, Oregon restaurant) both here and on the (Belfast restaurant) talk page. Of course, this can be moved to Ox (Portland, Oregon restaurant) if a notable restaurant in another Portland pops up. feminist (talk) Слава Україні! 04:04, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
