I seem to recall that Wister studied music composition with Richard Wagner, no less, and composed a successful cowboy musical. He also was one of the first to collect cowboy songs.173.77.107.213 (talk) 19:15, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that Wister had planned to be a concert pianist. WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 09:31, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are an awful lot of redlinks in the Bibliography section. Unless someone can present a rationale for why every single thing Wister ever wrote must be a link (instead of just the noteworthy items that might reasonably be expected to have Wikipedia articles), I am going to unlink these. 12.233.146.130 (talk) 20:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if these were ever removed, but I have placed a redlinks template to explain why this is bad and direct editors to correct the situation. If I wander back here in a month or so and find the situation unchanged, I will remove the redlinked line items myself. 12.233.147.42 (talk) 18:30, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done. After seven years, it's more than safe to assume no one is interested in creating these articles. Smallbones should be censured for removing the template without removing the links. Policy: templates are not to be removed until the situation requiring the template has been resolved. His subjective opinion that there "is no need for an ugly tag" is completely irrelevant. barely a stub

[edit]

Given the continuing importance of the cowboy in American mythology, and the place of Wister in making the cowboy part of American literature, this is an article of high importance. WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 09:35, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
