Romantic comedy
[edit]The series is not a romantic comedy because one random guy on Twitter said so, for fuck's sake.
- David Jenkins is the creator and show runner, not some random guy on Twitter. Kungjaada (talk) 02:23, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Jim is non-binary?
[edit]Isn't she just a woman disguising herself as a man? What makes the character non-binary? 2A00:23C5:CF17:FD01:109D:14CC:127A:935A (talk) 13:42, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- There’s that whole exchange where the Swede asks “ So, this whole time you were a woman?” And Jim replies, “Yeah... I guess. I don't know.” It’s a very non-committal response, not the way you’d expect a woman to respond. It is, however, a very classic response for someone who might be agender, non-binary, or uncertain about their gender identity. Additionally, they ask the crew to keep calling them Jim rather than going by their feminine birth name, and don’t correct anyone who uses “they/them” pronouns, but they do correct their Nana regarding their new name.
- So while it’s not explicitly stated in-show that Jim is non-binary, it’s heavily implied. And has been confirmed by cast and crew. Vico Ortiz (their actor) is also non-binary and has confirmed Jim’s gender identity in interviews such as this one:
“They’re not trying to act like a man or act like a woman, they just are,”

- And another:
They say that the minute they read the character description looking for a nonbinary pirate they thought about connecting to trans people in history. "This is amazing because oftentimes throughout history, our stories are overlooked or the way that they're rejected or told it's in a way that's very binary or not honoring or acknowledging the person's queerness," they note. "So having this character exist and so beautifully be accepted by the rest of the crew was so, so huge."
