[edit]Why can't otafest go into the LIST OF ANIME CONVENTIONS?
Otafest is the ONLY anime convention in Calgary. It's not some small party with 100 people, its a big convention with movies, market, and stuffu... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nakjisanjeok (talk • contribs)
- The last time Otafest reported its attendance to AnimeCons.com was in 2001 at 700 attendees. To make matters worse, they appear to have removed all previous news and press releases from their website that may have contained past attendance figures. That makes verifying their current attendance almost impossible. With Animethon reporting 3,755 for last year and simply lacking an article and the last verifiable attendance figure of Otafest is still at 700—below the 2,000 threshold—that leaves Otafest off the list until they officially report their attendance figures. --TheFarix (Talk) 23:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Did some research.
[edit]While doing some research, I found out that there have been articles about Otafest in the Calgary Sun. But unfortunately those people would want $40 to find me the article. If anyone has it, please post it!! Thanks! Kopf1988 22:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
re: Otafest 2001
[edit]The 2001 convention also was marred by the interference of the Alberta Film Board[4]. Otafest had not submitted their list of presentations to the Film Board which meant that none of the shows had been rated. As all festivals are required by law to submit their presentations for review, the film board gave Otafest two options: shut down or have every show rated 18A. This meant that all participants would require identification to watch every show being presented at otafest, even anime that would be considered rated G such as Sailor Moon or Pokemon.
This is a pretty weaselly statement, isn't it? Saying that an official government body interfered with an event is not the same as event staff's failure to comply with a publically-available government regulation. It's not like these sorts of things come out of the clear blue. I've edited this to better reflect the fact that it would not be the Film Board's fault, but Otafest's itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.210.56.177 (talk) 20:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I looked over the section while adding the Previous conventions section and have to consider it unverified criticism and possibly original research. So I've removed from the article unless someone can present reliable sources to back up the claims. --Farix (Talk) 20:37, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
