Death
[edit]It sounds as if he died from a ruptured Cerebral aneurysm. Has there been a modern diagnosis? Xxanthippe (talk) 03:57, 31 March 2011 (UTC).
- From John Harper's article in the online New Grove: "The doctors described precisely his coma and final seizure, attributed at the post mortem to a brain haemorrhage." That's certainly close. Antandrus (talk) 04:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
- What a loss to the world. We might have had another 10 or 20 years of wonderful music that would have made Glen Gould even more ecstatic. Xxanthippe (talk) 07:09, 31 March 2011 (UTC).
Cheque book?
[edit]'Gibbons name appears at this time in a cheque book of the Chapel'
Please explain the use of 'cheque book' in this context.
- I had assumed that it referred to a cheque book e.g. that the chapel paid him, by means of a cheque, rather than in cash. But looking at the source, Harley (1999) here, it seems to have a more general meaning of "account or ledger of expenses." Martinevans123 (talk) 22:06, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- It is certainly the latter—merely a document in which the expenses of the chapel were recorded. The careers of many Renaissance composers (particularly in England) can be tracked through them. Is there a better link that could be used? Or maybe an explanatory footnote? Aza24 (talk) 23:53, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Mention this event?

Mentioned in podcast. Street pedlar tunes
[edit]In the podcast "No Such Thing as a Fish" ( No_Such_Thing_as_a_Fish episode 506) they say they'd read unconfirmed reports that Gibbons had composed tunes for street pedlars to sing to advertise their wares or services. They specifically mention people who cut off corns (on your feet, as in bunions). While plausible, is there any evidence of this? peter_english (talk) 18:34, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Its not something I came across when writing the bio section, but when I get around to the music section (not sure when that'll be!) I'll keep an eye out in the sources. Aza24 (talk) 06:48, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
