pickoff
[edit]So what about in a pickoff, can you stay in the way if you don't yet have the ball yet, or are you "fielding"? 018 (talk) 18:26, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Rarity -- but the rule practically defines the game
[edit]Violations of the rule against obstruction are rare at the major-league level. But the rule practically defines the game by ensuring that blocking and tackling are not part of baseball as they are much of the game of American football. Because blocking and tackling are not part of the game, size does not have the significance in baseball that it does in American football. Thus players of modest size, like Derek Jeter and Dustin Pedroia, who could never play NFL football, can star in baseball.
Of course this is opinion and even original research... but it seems very obvious. Maybe someone can find a citation for this, even if in a guide to Little League baseball.Pbrower2a (talk) 04:49, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
