The result of the proposal was move per request.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:25, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Norman Jones (Invercargill) → Norman Jones (politician) – This is the original name for this article. The 2008 rationale ("disambiguating qualifiers delineating political figures have traditionally identified them with their home bases, states or provinces") for moving the article to its current name was wrong. Where disambiguation for people is needed, the dab identifies what they are known for. If there is more than one person with a name known for the same thing, it is then that the country (or state) gets added to the dab. Requires move over redirect. Schwede66 20:08, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support, would prefer to see Norman Jones (New Zealand politician) - follows style of other politicians. "Invercargill" is not a correct disambiguation for articles.
- Comment I have now seen that there is Norman Francis (Gerry) Jones, whose article is at Gerry Jones, so there might be merit in including New Zealand in the dab. Schwede66 05:17, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - luckily Norman Francis (Gerry) Jones is known as Gerry Jones, not Norman Jones! So that is at this point enough disambiguation, however, Norman Jones (Australian politician) could be created as a redirect, as it might be a legitimate search, and if so then the New Zealand would become needed. I find that due to the nature of politics being regional, for the most part, country disambiguation is a good idea. --Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 05:32, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

- Support either (politician) or (New Zealand politician). I would however not support a redirect from (Australian politician) as it's a different country entirely - it would be like having (for example) a Fred Smith as a politician in Québec with "Fred Smith (Newfoundland politician)" redirected there. Daveosaurus (talk) 07:04, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- No one is proposing a redirect from Australian politician to this article, however Norman Francis (Gerry) Jones, is an Australian politician, and a redirect from (Australian politician) to that article would be appropriate. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my previous comment.--Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 07:15, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Just a funny note! Newfoundland is an Island not a Province, so that would be like going back to the original Invercargill disambig here!--Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 07:20, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Much clearer now thanks. I misread the previous comment as suggesting that (Australian politician) be redirected here. And I honestly had no idea that Newfoundland wasn't a Province - does the same go for Prince Edward Island as well then? Daveosaurus (talk) 07:51, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Newfoundland is an Island in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the province used to be just Newfoundland and is frequently still called that in day to day usage! Prince Edward Island is a Province, also one of one the islands in that Province. Confused yet? I live here and sometimes am! At least PEI is just islands, with no "mainland" portion, unlike Rhode Island which is mostly mainland! --Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 15:52, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

- Support exactly as proposed. (politician) is sufficient disambiguation unless another politician with the same name gets an article. --BDD (talk) 18:03, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support Invercargill is completely incorrect with current MOS. Mattlore (talk) 12:24, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
