Nick Castellanos → Nicholas Castellanos – Per [1], "In all official ways, the Tigers said, starting third baseman would be referred to as Nicholas – not Nick – Castellanos". I figured I could move the page myself, but I'd prefer to do it this way, with consensus. RobDe68 (talk) 22:15, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- IMO, per WP:COMMONNAME, we should wait until reliable third-party sources start calling him "Nicholas" (if they do). — X96lee15 (talk) 22:39, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- He's officially listed as "Nicholas" on his profile page at MLB.com now and they now refer to him as "Nicholas" on telecasts. They even state that that's how he wants to be referred to as opposed to "Nick", not to mention the article I just posted stating that's his name in "all official ways". How much more do we need? RobDe68 (talk) 23:07, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Those are all non-independent sources (maybe not telecasts). I'd like to see what the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News and Associated Press call him. Per WP:IS, we want third-party references. — X96lee15 (talk) 23:12, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- The link I provided in my move request is the Detroit News. And the SNY telecast on MLB network as well as FSD now refer to him as "Nicholas" and make a point of mentioning that's his preferred name now. Seems cut and dry to me but we'll wait for more consensus. RobDe68 (talk) 23:16, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose for now. Let's wait and see if this change is actually adopted in practice. Lepricavark (talk) 18:28, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- They've already been using "Nicholas" in the telecasts I've seen so far this spring, including several non-FSD telecasts. That's what prompted the move request. RobDe68 (talk) 19:14, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- I still say it's too soon. Lepricavark (talk) 19:23, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose for now too. The Detroit News article cited above says "But this will not be a rigid policy, Castellanos said. There will be no offense taken if teammates and others find his crisp, single-syllable nickname preferable. “I’ll still be Nick,” he said." Some more recent sources still use "Nick". It doesn't seem to be the WP:COMMONNAME. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:55, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- I read that as his friends are still going to call him what they want (he used "Miggy" as an example) but officially he is now to be referred to as "Nicholas", and that's what they are calling him on every telecast I've seen so far this spring. I don't mind waiting to see if it "sticks", it just seems pretty official at this point (like "Giancarlo Stanton" when he used to be called "Mike" or Chad Johnson who changed his name to "Ochocinco" and then back again a few years later.) Internet Memes
[edit]This section is way too long and filled with unnecessary trivia. Does every single event that he homered after need to be mentioned? This section if anything should be just a couple of paragraphs talking about his internet fame.. it definitely should not be a bunch of bullet pointed events with relatively little connection.
