Unique Features?

[edit]

Might we want to mention here the unique features about the New York Ave station, like the glass walls/barriers around the escalators, instead of the usual thick concrete, as well as the white theme instead of the usual brown drab? It also has the only barbed wire I have seen in any metro station (on the white fences-also unique-that line the edges of the track), and a piece of the Metropolitan Branch Trail was constructed along with the station. Anything else? -Rmeskill 18:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Morgan Blvd. and Largo also have the white color scheme, as well as the escalator details. Also, what barbed wire? SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Although not visible in the picture (perhaps it was added later), there is a white fence about as high as a traincar and then barbed wire at a typical 45 degree outward-leaning angle. I'll try to remember to pay attention on the way home tonight, and it may only be on the side which butts up against the Metropolitan Branch Trail. -Rmeskill 13:26, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I checked a number of other photos that I have of New York Avenue, and I saw no barbed wire on the trail side of the station. A white fence was erected (the photo in the article was taken a few days after the station opened), but I can't remember any barbed wire. The only barbed wire I found was along track 1, separating Metro's right of way from the other rail services using Union Station. That fence has been there since the 1970s, and similar fencing to separate the ROW can be found in a number of other places throughout the system. I went by New York Avenue last time I was in DC, and what do you know - there is barbed wire as described. So my apologies there. I don't see it as too remarkable, though, since there's barbed wire in a number of other places along the boundary between Metro's right of way and the outside world. WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 15:59, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

B35 or B97

[edit]

I've seen the station refered to by different codes... One is B97 since the two yards on the B side of the Red Line are B99 for the one intown and B98 for the one at Glenmont. B35, OTOH comes from the idea of it being B3.5 since New York Avenue is B03 and Rhode Island is B04. Any official information on this?Naraht (talk) 15:53, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I called up the Red Line Team's office and was told it was B35, she will attempt to have someone email me this information so that I can use it for a reference.Naraht (talk) 13:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name change--not yet?

[edit]

I don't think the name change goes into effect until June 2012. Until then, I think the article should have stayed with the current name. 140.147.236.195 (talk) 21:29, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza[reply]

I would point out that the link given in the article to Metro's own page on the Metro station in question still calls it by the old name. 140.147.236.195 (talk) 21:37, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza[reply]

please rename these pages

[edit]

whoever is renaming these wmata station pages, please name them back. these are not official wmata station names! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.70.189 (talk) 08:25, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The page for the Metro project says to use the names on Metro's official map--which still has the old names. Until June 18, that's the way they should stay. Uporządnicki (talk) 10:49, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be riding in about an hour. I'll see if the stations have changed. If they hadn't, I'll be changing this back--with the intention of changing it again on June 18, the date the changes go into effect. Uporządnicki (talk) 10:52, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, no, I'm going to do it right now. The page for WikiProject Washington Metro says, "Naming Conventions -- Metro stations: Use [[Station Name (WMATA station)]], as written on the official Metro system map." They provide a link to that map, and that map still has the old names. I'm afraid that there's someone here who just considers himself a bit too clever. Uporządnicki (talk) 11:00, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it. (But I'm afraid I screwed up the Redirect page, trying to fix that. I'll work on it later and see if I can figure out what I did wrong.) Yes, Schumin is right: SOME of the signage a the station has changed. But the authority is the official map, as I've linked above.Uporządnicki (talk) 13:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And the name change--final chapter

[edit]

I was going to wait and change the name (ideally) Sunday night (I happen to be off work on Monday), in anticipation of June 18, when the change--as I understand it--is supposed to take effect. I don't know what specifically--what "christening"--happened today, to make the change beyond a shadow of a doubt (the map at WMATA's website hasn't changed, and that, according to the Wikipedia group, is supposed to be the arbiter). Yesterday, a train operator said "NO-MA." This morning, another said "New York Avenue." But at this point, I won't make an issue or change anything back. I'll just consider that SchuminWeb has saved me the trouble; I thought he might. (Although I'm kind of hoping the "christening" image will not stay. Aside from it being a rather imprecise explanation to have in an encyclopedia article, I'm one of those people still clinging to the quaint notion that a baptism actually means something.) Uporządnicki (talk) 14:56, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, OK, I see! Ribbon cutting this morning, and a reliable source for it. Uporządnicki (talk) 22:05, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Page, still old title???

[edit]

I thought talk pages were supposed to move with articles. How come this one still shows under the old title? Uporządnicki (talk) 21:07, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Shady Grove (WMATA station) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 18:45, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
