There is indeed already a page on Juglans regia but it is very generalized and in microbiological terms, a Nepalese walnut can be very different than a general walnut. Distinguishing between them is therefore essential. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.138.189.191 (talk • contribs)
- However, this article does not do that. This article is about the economic aspects of growing and selling walnuts in Nepal. --MelanieN (talk) 20:19, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have deleted the specific information on export potential and business opportunities. Do you have any other recommended edits in order to keep the page. If I could add specific microbiological characteristics I would but unfortunately that is not my area of expertise. Bradenweltz (talk) 21:02, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- This article could be either on microbiologically distinctive walnut varieties of Nepal, or the economics of the Nepalese walnut growing industry. It shouldn't cover both subjects; and probably should be retitled to clarify which sense is meant.
- The scientific names Juglans regia var. kamaonia or Juglans kamaonia have been used for some walnuts from central Asia and the Himlayas. However, most botanists don't recognize as a distinct variety or species from Juglans regia (and I would guess that not all walnuts in Nepal would be classified as kamaonia even by the handful of botanists who've recognized a difference). The problem is that walnuts from the region are probably best treated as a group of related cultivars, but they are poorly studied and the relevant cultivars have never been named.
- I'm just not sure that there's enough research to support an article on the distinctive walnut varieties of Nepal, nor an article on the walnut growing industry in Nepal. If you're looking for information on the walnut varieties, searching for Juglans+kamaonia might be a starting point. Sources using the term "okhar" might also be useful, provided that term is being used exclusively for walnuts grown in Nepal (rather than being used as the Nepali term for any walnuts).
