Washington Conference

"By 1922, the U.S. Navy, if all the ships had been built, would have surpassed the Royal Navy in size and strength. Only the Washington Naval Conference of 1921-1922 and the tonnage limit ratio agreements prevented that from happening."

This unreferenced claim is seriously misleading.

1. The later ships of the plan were nowhere near completion by 1922. 2. There was no money to finish them. 3. (2) was the reason why the US invited the other powers to a disarmament conference. 4. Names of tzhe ships ?

"Ultimately, more than $500 million was to be spent on ten battleships, six battlecruisers, thirty submarines, fifty destroyers, and other support vessels, to be built over a three-year period."

It was the 4 Colorados, 6 South Dakotas (1920) and 6 Lexingtons
