Faster than 200 miles per hour?

[edit]

I am a little puzzled about the statement "Herz was the first man to drive faster than 200 miles per hour, in August 1956." Speeds greater than 200 mph were exceeded decades before, with, I believe, the first being Henry Segrave in 1927. Could the writer had meant, perhaps, motorcycle? Yes, I am fairly sure this does mean a motorcycle speed record. Zephyrus67 17:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is right, it means the record for motorcycles. J S (Germany)

NSU 501 and the NSU 601

[edit]

I am seeing old WW2 photos of German Army troops riding the NSU 501 and NSU 601 but nothing in this post about these models Jcw69 (talk) 13:40, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What is in a name

[edit]

NSU stands for Neckarsulm Strickmaschine Unternehmung (Neckarulm Knitting Machine Company) Peter Horn User talk 03:03, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Peter Horn: The de.wikipedia article NSU Motorenwerke, citing reliable sources, says that this story is a "weitverbreiteten Irrglauben" (ie "widespread misconception"), and that NSU is nothing more than a shortened form of the name of the company's home town of Neckarsulm. Thanks for the clarification. Peter Horn User talk 18:50, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NSU Motorenwerke#NSU motorcycles and scooters

Were they twin endines? Peter Horn User talk 01:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to the de.wiki article, almost all of them had 1 cylinder four stroke engines, apart from the world record-setting NSU Delphin; the en.wiki article about that machine says that it had a 499 cc, 4-cycle supercharged parallel twin engine. It looks like I should add a translation-assisted upgrade of the en.wiki NSU Motorenwerke article to my to do list. Bahnfrend (talk) 05:13, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
