Disambiguation
[edit]Does this page really need disambiguation? It seems that the ALL CAPS title is disambiguation enough. There is currently no page named NETWORK. Elizium23 (talk) 03:39, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Sidebar?
[edit]Could somebody put in a sidebar like other organizations have like Apple, Inc's page does? I have no idea what I'm doing. 208.108.81.119 (talk) 17:54, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

NETWORK → Network (lobby group) – MOS:CAPS There is no indication that this is an acronym, so it should not be ALLCAPS. The current title should point to network -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 04:59, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

- Oppose per WP:DIFFCAPS. The name is stylized in this way in all WP:RS and the capitalization provides natural disambiguation for the topic. Elizium23 (talk) 06:03, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- Support, WP:CAPS is the guideline. WP:DIFFCAPS per William J. Rademacher, John S. Weber, David McNeill, Jr. Understanding Today's Catholic Parish 2007 -1585956309 Page 31 "Parishes can now subscribe to Network Connection, the newsletter of the National Catholic Social Justice Lobby based in Washington, DC. The Network's stated mission and vision: educates, lobbies, and organizes to influence the formation ...". In ictu oculi (talk) 06:41, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- Listed as all caps: The Pluralism Project VoteSmart.org Idealist.org plus all primary sources published by NETWORK themselves. Sources using non-caps are a small minority. Elizium23 (talk) 18:26, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- Support: Even if it were an acronym, unless it is pronounced by spelling out the letters, we should not use all caps for it (unless that formatting is used by all or practically all reliable sources – e.g., NASA or NATO – which is not the case here per IIO). See WP:TITLETM, MOS:ALLCAPS, MOS:TM, etc. Many organizations use all-capital formatting (or other unusual decorative styling – as in TIME, KISS, ASUS, MOTOROLA, REALTOR, etc.) to try to call undue attention to themselves; Wikipedia does not need to, and generally should not, defer to their self-preferences. MOS:TM: "choose the style that most closely resembles standard English, regardless of the preference of the trademark owner." MOS:ALLCAPS: "Avoid writing with all capitals, including small caps, when they have only a stylistic function." —BarrelProof (talk) 23:51, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- Support. Wikipedia doesn't follow all-caps name styles. Nor is the capitalization sufficient disambiguation; if a reader doesn't already know about this topic, the capital style will not tell them how it differs from network. 209.211.131.181 (talk) 05:05, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- Alternative: keep the capital letters, and add the disambig. qualifier: NETWORK (lobby group). Since my background is computers any spelling of the word network is associated with computing. Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 12:04, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- No: per WP:DIFFCAPS, disambiguation is already provided by all-caps format, no parenthetical dab is called for. Elizium23 (talk) 18:25, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
