spelling preferences

[edit]

I see, digging through the edit history that the article did indeed start out as a one-line stub (by User:Dirtbiscuit) with the CE spelling "neighbouring", and then that the article was greatly expanded (by User:Bryan Derksen) who used exclusively AmE spellings. Then Bryan went and created the article Fangataufa, again using exclusively AmE spellings. So, for "consistency" "neighbouring" should have been changed to "neighboring", based on the sheer number of AmE spellings used, but for "argument reduction", all the AmE spellings should have been changed to Commonwealth spellings, eventhough doing so would lead to this article being CE and Fangataufa being AmE. As it happens, despite the mini editwar between me and User:Rama, "neighbouring" has weathered the storm and remains in the article.  :-/ Tomer TALK 22:43, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

"Greatly expanded" ... lol, is that what you wikipedia guys call ripping content wholesale from another publication? This entire entry is just pure plagiarism without even the decency of a credit.

[edit]

Much of the content of the current lead appears to be information for navigators wishing to enter the lagoon. This material should not be on Wikipedia at all, let alone in the lead. That Moruroa was the site of 189 French nuclear tests is of incomparably greater global interest. Is there any reason not to delete the navigational material? -- mglg(talk) 22:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since nobody has explained any reason to keep it, I'm removing the extraneous navigational information.--mglg(talk) 00:01, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Google Maps

[edit]

I just removed the following line:

A sign of the discomfort this matter still causes the French Government is that the Atoll cannot be found in Google Earth search functions.[citation needed]

At january 1st 2008 i could find mururoa with Google Maps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.145.81.165 (talkcontribs)

Note that while other atolls in the Tuamotu archipelago have hi rez imagery, Mururoa and Fangataufa happen to lack it for the nuclear test locations. (How convinient for the French Goverment.)91.154.95.31 (talk) 12:06, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

atomic tests and el nino el nina

[edit]

I'm wondering whether there is any correlation to the current long term drought in Australia to the long term environmental effects of the underground testings at Mururoa and its surrounding areas. Is there a governmental coverup occurring? We're told that it's all green house gas related but surely the testing has something to do with ocean temperatures and currents. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shelrielf (talkcontribs) 00:58, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UFO underwater base

[edit]

According to the Italian chemist and researcher Corrado Malanga no nuclear explosion happened in Mururoa. Instead, a huge underwater alien base was created in cooperation with the French military.
Does anyone knows more about this theory? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.24.147.188 (talk) 10:12, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This seems reasonable - --Viifog 14 Dec 2011 —Preceding undated comment added 09:17, 14 December 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Number of tests

[edit]

There is uncertainty over the number of explosions - both 181 and 175 are reported. The two sentences giving these numbers are contradictory. It should simply be stated that the number of tests has been variously reported as 175 and 181.203.184.41.226 (talk) 18:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
