Article renamed

[edit]

Part of my move edit summary got clipped, so here's the full version:

The proper subject of the article is the incident, not Mr. McLean, and there have been other murders on Greyhound buses, but only one beheading (I hope!). "Greyhound beheading" would refer to a dog and without the "incident", it might imply that "Greyhound passenger beheading" is some ongoing activity. I think we can skip "bus" though.--Father Goose (talk) 00:11, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came here expecting to read about the removal of the head of a dog rider. I am shocked and appalled at this semantic ambiguity and editorial laxity. Skomorokh 00:58, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was clear consensus, of 13 editors at the AFD, for "Murder of Tim McLean" and no consensus for "Greyhound passenger beheading incident," which has zero Google News hits, unlike "Murder of Tim McLean," which has 9 Google News hits. The most commonly used title is preferred in Wikipedia. Please seek consensus here before moving the article to some newly coined title one prefers. Edison (talk) 01:05, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

9 hits is not enough to establish "common use". Further, those 9 hits are nothing more than sentence fragments, which doesn't make them "the name" of this incident, let alone a common name. In the absence of a commonly used name, a descriptive (and neutral) name should be used.
I'd say the consensus of the 13 was just for keeping the article, not necessarily for keeping it at "Murder of Tim McLean", since the naming of the article was not what was being discussed AfD. (A few did separately suggest renaming it, however.)
Anyhow, I'm going to turn this over to requested moves.--Father Goose (talk) 03:00, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vince or Vincent

[edit]

I noticed at Killing of Tim McLean#Vince Weiguang Li that the template says "Vince Weiguang Li"

As in Vince is not merely a shortening of Vincent as a nickname, but rather his legal name.

If so, shouldn't we mention in the opening that even though Vincent Li redirects here that Vince Li is more accurate?

This March 2009 article makes me wonder whether 'Vincent' might be accurate though. It says "Vincent Li not criminally responsible" in the title, then "the fate of Vincent Lee" but then more notably "My fear is that Vincent Li may get out and be released into the public one day, and I fear for the public" is attributed to John McClean Senior.

Was McClean Senior possibly misinformed or just wrongly assumed that Vince was shortened from Vincent (as per the usual) or was he correct?

Do we have any legal court documents which could clear this up for us? You'd figure they'd use the legal/birth name so we could clear up which is the original and which is the slang. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 09:46, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where does it say that his Chinese name is Weiguang Li? I looked through all the links and none of the have Weiguang Li in there...??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.86.164.236 (talk) 07:36, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Destination America TV show mention

[edit]

I just wanted to ask if there should be a quick mention in the "in media" section to this incident being discussed in the show Monsters and Mysteries in America? While the premise being posed in this show about this incident is certainly outlandish, it was mentioned nonetheless, so I think it should get a quick line about it here, but I would leave that final decision to others. If anybody is interested, here's a link to that episode at the start of this incident being discussed: [1] Bobharris1989 (talk) 06:10, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Was he actually beheaded??

[edit]

What actually happened? 24.71.108.71 (talk) 05:20, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what part's unclear here. The article explicitly states that he was decapitated. DonIago (talk) 05:28, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes he was behead 67.5.1.98 (talk) 00:57, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

this is a very serious topic Tim was a victim of mental health 67.5.1.98 (talk) 01:29, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That kind of claim would need a supporting source. DonIago (talk) 03:19, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
they will not let me edit. I’m trying to put a new topic on. 67.5.1.98 (talk) 03:26, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
After reviewing your contributions, I can see why. As I said, you should focus on finding sources that support your serious allegations. DonIago (talk) 03:30, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
