Written by Joss Whedon?
[edit]That needs to be changed. Yes, Whedon wrote the screenplay adaptation, but it's not really 'adapted from' Much Ado, it IS Much Ado. The play is very much the thing here, and this movie closely follows the text of the play, as written by William Shakespeare, or whoever else you want to believe it was instead of Shakespeare--but I'm not aware of any conspiracy theory suggesting the Shakespearean canon was penned by Mr. Whedon (though I'm sure that's coming at some point). West Side Story was adapted from Romeo & Juliet. This filmed version of Much Ado IS the play, in more or less its original form, with Shakespeare's original Elizabethan-era dialogue, iambic pentameter and all. Now of course Shakespeare provided very few stage directions in his plays (which wouldn't necessarily work for a film if he had made copious stage directions, which he didn't), and I fully acknowledge that Whedon is making a contribution, that he is interpreting the work as (literally) tens of thousands of directors have done before, but he did not write Much Ado About Nothing, and that's what this film is. "Adapted for the screen and directed by Joss Whedon" is the proper way to introduce it--that's how Branagh's Much Ado is described on Wikipedia, as well as any other direct film adaptation of a Shakespeare play you can name. So I'm going to edit it. This is not in any way an attack on Joss Whedon, who would probably edit it that way himself if he happened to notice that he was being credited with writing Much Ado About Nothing. I sure hope so, anyway. Xfpisher (talk) 13:50, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm adding my support to the above. I didn't even realize it said written by Whedon. (I swear it didn't when I checked all those weeks ago.) ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 16:36, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- I checked back, and it seems to have first been credited as being written by Whedon in a revision from 9/12/12--previously it just said it was an independent film made by Joss Whedon, based on the play--revision justification reads "Slightly rewrote header." Just slightly, yes. So for nine months, Joss Whedon wrote one of Shakespeare's plays. I know how easy it is for the eyes to glaze over the boilerplate text in an article you are well familiar with. That's why fresh eyes are always useful.Xfpisher (talk) 17:11, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Article from Creative Planet Network
[edit]I'm not entirely sure if there's anything new or even useful in it but there's an article from Creative Planet Network, talking with the cinematographer Jay Hunter. Shakespeare in A 12-Day Shoot. Thought I'd leave it here in case it's of any use. 108.54.152.52 (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
- Another short one on the flashback sequences and how those were shot. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 20:22, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
