The phrase "Model Minority Myth" (and "Model Minority" in general) seem to conflate two apparently similar but quite different things:

1) Certain minority groups, particularly Asian Americans, are successful, and well-adjusted, with little or no need for social or economic assistance for that group compared to the majority group. 2) Certain minority groups, particularly Asian Americans, are successful, and well-adjusted, demonstrating that there is little or no need for social economic assistance for other, apparently less successful minority groups, as the first minority group serves as a "model" for the other groups to follow.

Policies that are aimed at only "underrepresented minorities" agree with the first premise while strongly disagreeing with the second. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.73.108.194 (talk) 16:13, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Incongruent sentence

[edit]

I found this sentence (middle of the last paragraph) confusing and I don't know what the author intended (so cannot change it): Middleman minorities are often granted economic privileges but neither economic nor political privileges, leading to tension and hostility from the elites and the masses they are situated between ...

Note, the double use of economic: they are "often granted economic privileges" and then "but neither economic ... privileges..." Wikideon (talk) 18:06, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
