Can't someone confirm the details of his title. He is usually referred to as Marquess of Alava in English sources but I don't know the exact detailsAlci12 17:10, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish Naval Ranks

[edit]

Captain of a frigate could be capitán de fragata, Frigate Captain. And the Marines use army-like ranks (Colonel, Lieutenant, etc.), so that Álava was a naval officer, not a marine officer. According to the Spanish Wikipedia, Álava was teniente de fragata in 1794 and teniente de navío in 1802, being promoted once again after Trafalgar.
