Notability

[edit]

The article was a really poor stub in the past, but notability is a given. I did some formatting, added basic sources and updated the position towards the hiatus. Lockwood is not at all a classical climate sceptic, but has distanced himself from the political tribalism in some respact. I found it interesting, that he asked for cooling based on the solar impact in 2007 and seems to have received it now ;). He doubts as well wether a new maunder minimum has a global effect or will be have a more regioal impact. But the prediction for the UK is clearly not on the warming side for now. Obituary about Andrew Breen

[edit]

The obituary is one of the publications of Lockwood, which was published in the guardian and in a scientific journal, the latter with a doi. I would strongly advise to redo the revert. Writing about details about somebody else's life IS relevant, biographers do that as a main job and may get notable in WP. Serten (talk) 04:30, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Serten, I think this comes down to relevance and balance. In the whole story of a scientist's career, he/she will do a lot of things, including write the occasional obituary. That Mike Lockwood wrote an obituary does not rise to the level of being worthy of mention in his own biographical page. It is even less worthy of mention to discuss how the subject of obituary died. This is just not relevant. Thank you and sincerely, DoctorTerrella (talk) 13:24, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You see, the previous version [1] had a notability tag. Not all obituaries get to the Guardian. I agree the article should be longer to allow for reinserting that aspect with due weight. Serten (talk) 14:24, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to write an entirely new article about Andrew Breen, then his obituary can appropriately be cited there. DoctorTerrella (talk) 14:31, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Lcokwood has proven to have got some humour, in so far I, as a good german, would have liked to insert some more somber tones as well. But be it in the name of consensus ;) Serten (talk) 11:01, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
