Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: IMDB is not a reliable source..

Willbb234Talk (please {{ping}} me in replies) 22:26, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Willbb234: right you are, but unfortunately I can find no other sources for the subject's date of death, including Ancestry.com. This raises questions about his notability, but for the time being I'm not prepared to challenge it. Hall really hasn't gotten much coverage in reliable sources, not even in 1946-47 apparently despite the massive publicity given to Best Years of Our Lives.Coretheapple (talk) 21:13, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

I learned of Hall's death by seeing his name and picture on TCM recently with other deceased film personalities. There are no obituaries or even death notices of which I am aware and only one recent article in a magazine of questionable reliability. I'd very much like there to be an article on this subject if possible, but I've had a heck of a time trying to find material on Hall in reliable sources, not even on the date of his death. in May 2020. I can only find one article occasioned by his appearance in Best Years of Our Lives and nothing in film books. The source for date of death is IMDB which is not a reliable source as correctly noted above. While I'm not prepared to nominate this article for deletion at this time, I did want to raise the issue, especially for the attention of article creator Chart76. ProQuest shows an Art News article of unknown depth, but it is not available full text as far as I know. Coretheapple (talk) 16:42, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Coretheapple the obituary [1] seems reliable enough and it's detailed so I guess we'll stick to that and see how it goes. It's been many months since the reported date of death so it's unlikely we'll get anything else from the media, unfortunately. We may have to keep a look out for announcements of his artwork being auctioned, however, as that might attract the media. I also found this. @Willbb234: We can certainly wait to see if anything further turns up. It concerns me that we don't have a reliable source on the date of death. Not even SSDI. Coretheapple (talk) 19:50, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up on the above, there is nothing on his death date that I can find under "Michael Hall." But there may be something under his birth name that hasn't turned up. Coretheapple (talk) 23:28, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved. Choosing the nom because it seems more consistent with our usual naming conventions, but another RM can be opened for the alternative per WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE (closed by non-admin page mover) ASUKITE 15:51, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year

[edit]

I just wanted to mention that there is a conflict of sources on Hall's birth year. The Boston Globe article cited in the article gives his birth date as Sept. 7, 1927. However, his draft card, accessed on Ancestry.com, is for Sept. 7, 1926. This is consistent with the 1930 Census, which gives his age at the time as three years and six months. Likewise the 1940 census gives his age as 13. Taken together, I think we can safely use the 1926 birth date. Presumably a year was shaved off his age by publicity people to account for his not being drafted into the armed services during the height of the war. Usually we go with secondary sources, but I think that we should go with the very clear and authoritative draft card in this instance. Coretheapple (talk) 23:25, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging Pppery Asukite Crouch, Swale Hameltion to be sure that all of the participants in the page move discussion are aware that "1926," now in the page title and properly so I think, is sourced only to a primary source and is contradicted by a reliable source. Just fyi, as it is an unusual situation caused by the comparative obscurity of the article subject. Coretheapple (talk) 19:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have much of an opinion on the birth year just that further disambiguation is needed. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:45, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Added. Coretheapple (talk) 20:00, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
