Usage of ‘Near East’.
[edit]The term ‘Near East is a byproduct of colonialism and a eurocentric term. I know that it historically refers to the area encompassing Northeast Africa, Western Asia and Southeastern Europe, but the article specifically says ‘throughout the Near East and Egypt’. This suggests that the writer does not consider Egypt to be part of the Near East. In this case, the writer refers to the ‘modern’ definition of the ‘Near East’, interchangeable with the term ‘Middle East’. The suitable term for this area is West Asia. To this end, I propose that the term ‘Near East’ be replaced with West Asia or Southwest Asia. Taishō219 (talk) 23:08, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
