Canine length
[edit]And... How much long were it's fangs aproximately?
- Megantereon contained several species, each with it's own approximate fang length, I suppose (not sure though). DaMatriX (talk) 18:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Body length
[edit]Just to compare, their principal measurment, length I guess or height if you prefer, what was it?
- This differed between species as well - according to the article, most species of Megantereon were roughly jaguar-sized. Off-topic: please use four tildes (~ ~ ~ ~, without the spaces) to sign your comments! DaMatriX (talk) 18:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Prey animals
[edit]Was it a pride/pack living animal? otherwise masterdon seem unlikley prey due to their large size. Also were teeth similarly fragile to those of the later saber toothed cats?
- Did Megantereon live in prides? I believe no one knows for sure, but most evidence seem to suggest they were mostly solitary animals. However, I do not believe the article says they did hunt on mastodons? It doesn't matter anyway, it is known (or at least suspected) that closely related genera, such as Smilodon, did prey on very large animals, so I see no reason why Megantereon did not. Smilodon is even considered to have been able to kill massive animals on their own! According to the main article on saber toothed cats, all of them had fragile fangs, although the fangs of (most) Smilodontini (such as Megantereon) seem to have been more fragile compared to the fangs of (most) Machairodontini.
