Source code available
[edit]Mega also makes source code available for the sync service on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows, as well as the code of their other plugins: https://mega.nz/#sourcecode
The sync client source is here: https://github.com/meganz/MEGAsync — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lagerspe (talk • contribs) 13:40, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Is it 15 or 50GB?
[edit]The first paragraph says it's 50GB; but in the Data Allowance section it says 15GB. Aside from information for my own account while logged in, I haven't found any information about the current storage quota for free accounts yet; my free account has had 50GB for a lot of time though, a lot more than the Data Allowance section says it should though. --TiagoTiago (talk) 17:24, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
It is currently 20 GB for the free account. It used to be 50 GB and any user with an old account will keep this quota. DieDerDas (talk) 11:27, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
It is still 20 GB for the free account. However, one part of the wiki entry says "MEGA is known for the largest fully featured free cloud storage in the world with 20 GB[4]". Degoo offers 100GB free (ad supported), so this is no longer true. It's probably better to avoid making claims like this with the fast-changing consumer data storage landscape. Suggested Updates to the MEGA Wikipedia page
[edit]Full disclosure - I work on the PR team for MEGA in New Zealand. The page doesn't appear to have been updated since 2016 and I would like to recommend some edits that would bring the page up to 2020 (and beyond).
Please excuse me if any of my requests are poorly formatted. I am new to editing/suggesting edits for Wikipedia.
Firstly, I would like to suggest some additions to the summary field. This could follow what is currently featured:
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Some or all of the changes weren't supported by neutral, independent, reliable sources. Consider re-submitting with content based on media, books and scholarly works. |
·Information to be added or removed:
The business grew rapidly in subsequent years, reporting that the number of registered users increased from 35 million people uploading 12 billion files in January 2016 [1] to over 180 million people, uploading more than 78 billion files in August 2020. [2]
Recognising its controversial background, MEGA says it is investing heavily in compliance under the guidance of its global legal advisers [3] MEGA has taken legal action to ensure that its users can access their securely encrypted private file storage [4]
·Explanation of issue:
Update with more recent detail. User figures were out of date.

Limitations
According to Mega, the site "works with all major current browsers", but there can be some inconveniences to using browsers other than Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. For example, with Internet Explorer 10, as it has a "memory leak in the Blob saving functionality, the user has to close and reopen the Mega tab every couple of hundred megabytes[47] of inbound file transfer".[48] There is currently no option for sharing among a group of users.
·Explanation of issue: Internet Explorer 10 is an outdated web browser.
Proposed Edits for MEGA (services)
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
My name is Michael and I work for MEGA. In compliance with WP:COI, I'd like to request an impartial editor consider making the three changes detailed below. Each reference below contains a quote from the cited source, to make it more convenient for you to compare each statement to what the cited source says.

(1) Add founders
At the beginning of the third paragraph of the History section that starts "On 4 July 2013" add: "In 2013, Mega, a new company, launched as a cloud storage service focused on privacy.[12]"

Thank you in advance for spending the time to review these changes against Wikipedia's rules. I'm sure the proposed changes are imperfect, but hopefully would be incremental improvements to the page. Any edits would be welcome. MichaelFriedberg (talk) 21:08, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
editorial bias
[edit]According to its founder, Kim Dotcom, Mega is faster, bigger, and better than its predecessor. However, Kim ended up disassociating himself from the company he founded and warned users not to trust it, which is now owned by the New Zealand government.
