No consensus' to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor of WanganuiMayor of Whanganui — For the same reason as the name of the town was moved, as discussed on its talk page, this page should reflect the new official name of Whanganui. Note that there is also a Category:Mayors of Whanganui, so if we decide not to move this page, then we should rename the category instead. Schwede66 01:19, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

* Support Regardless of any controversy over which spelling should be used, it seems very plain that the article about the city and the article about the mayor of that city should be consistent. Propaniac (talk) 14:49, 13 April 2010 (UTC) Okay, it wasn't as plain as I thought it was. What a weird situation. Propaniac (talk) 19:49, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - it is clear we must be consistent, and it therefore makes sense that the person in charge of "Wanganui District Council" would logically be the "Mayor of Wanganui". We can move it later if and when the DC decides to adopt the H. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 14:54, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - for now. Until it is clear that the position "Mayor of Wanganui" has changed to "Mayor of Whanganui" both officially and actually (which seems unlikely while Laws is mayor) then it would be better to leave it as it is. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:36, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The council is using Wanganui, so the mayor is of Wanganui. If (and when) the council changes its name, I will support the move. Adabow (talk) 05:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Although the "Wanganui" spelling is incorrect, the name of the Council and its functionaries (as opposed to the name of the town and the river) should be left as is, as it is a self-bestowed name. If the locals are embarrassed at having a Council with a different spelling than the name of their town, they are welcome to elect a Mayor who can spell the name of the district they are Mayor of. Daveosaurus (talk) 09:17, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've got to say that I rather like the second part of your argument - brilliant! Schwede66 19:55, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'll second that, even if we get told off for not following talk page guidelines. Kapai!

Category name

[edit]

I have now renamed the Category:Mayors of Wanganui in accordance with the spelling decision. Schwede66 22:02, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
