title

[edit]

Shouldn't the title be "market overt"?? "Market ouvert" is a mashup of the two possible titles, market overt and marché ouvert. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.130.190.228 (talk) 15:15, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Moved as proposed. Mixed-language terms are particularly poor form. bd2412 T 22:39, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Market ouvertMarket overt – The current title is a mixture of the Law French and English terms, as noted by the IP above in 2014. The English term is used in most on-line dictionaries - see, for example, Merriam-Webster and TheFreeDictionary. Move over redirect. Tevildo (talk) 20:17, 25 September 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. • Support but very messy... legalese in both French and English! The French for market is of course marché, although market sort of looks French to English eyes. This article was once at marché ouvert which appears to be the correct French legal term but would be translated open market in most contexts. The French for open market is marché libre but that's a completely different concept. Andrewa (talk) 23:01, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment - "Marché ouvert" is the term in Law French (which is used in English law, somewhat confusingly). "Market overt" is the English legal term, which is more-or-less a calque of the Law French. Either term would be acceptable (the Law French term is not uncommon in legal reports, and is used in the quote from Hansard in the article), but not the current combination of the two.
