Musical Career

[edit]

Wondering if this ought to be split up into band/solo/side-project setions? Might be doable if the info on Screaming Trees is shifted over to their page and his work outside the band is the main focus here. -A lot of this is speculation, such as "thought to be their best album." Perhaps not necessary?

I saw that the "Years active" the enddate is 2010, I couldn't find any sources supporting that so I'm just going to change that to present.--84.104.37.107 (talk) 11:01, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major Error

[edit]

OK, so when I look at this page, most of it has disappeared, but when I hit 'edit this page' the whole article is clearly there. What has happened?Stratpod 20:59, 21 January 2007 (UTC) Sorry, I fucked up bad there! I fixed it now though.[reply]

Other Biographical Details?

[edit]

There aren't any. Anyone know any? I know he used to be a quarterback for his high school football team, and that he dropped out because he was a stoner, but little else. I'm gonna do a bit of research. Stratpod 20:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC) ... I've now added an 'Early Life' section. Might not have registered as being by me 'coz I wasn't properly logged-in, but it was me, I promise! Stratpod 01:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC) ... Mr Lanegan was an avid baseball player in his youth. He played football for one year cuz his dad was the coach but sucked ass at it . (on purpose?) He eventually got banned from all school activities because of one arrest or another. Other legends worth considering for Biographical Details (warning: things are very contradicting and hard to prove with this guy... he likes the buffer of legend, doesn't like to give out real details) - used to deal drugs (specifically LSD) - was sent to jail for a hit and run car accident, after which he ran into Van Conner at a party and suggested they start a punk band - was run over by a tractor at the age of 19 or so, breaking both legs and preventing him from moving out of Ellensburg - katey of www.timeforlight.com ... bug me and I'll find you references, or just read the interviews at timeforlight, saplings.net, and onewhiskey.com, they're pretty entertaining![reply]

Discography

[edit]

This is in desperate need of a clean up. The Trees stuff shouldn't be there at all, there should be just a link to their page. I think his appearences should be acknowledged, but their must be a better way of doing it than as it is now. For someone whose career spans over 20 years, that section need better organising too, it's terribly disjointed. Ok, since no one else has said anything I went ahead and did my best, if anyone feels like improving it feel free to go ahead. It's just that it was hard to tell apart Lanegan's own work and what he'd merely done background vocals or what have you on with the layout as it was.

QotSA

[edit]

I'm not happy with the way Lanegan's work with Queens of the Stone Age is mentioned in this article. He was consistently referred to as a full member of the band between 2001 and 2005, whether touring with them or not. In fact the artwork for the SFTD album shows only Josh, Nick, Mark and Dave Grohl as Queens at that time. Also, Queens aren't a "musical collective", they're a band. *smb 13:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC) They are sort of a musical collecive; they've never had a complete line-up that's lasted more than one album and are pretty felxible about who writes/plays with them. It probably should read band though, I guess... Stratpod 03:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC) Josh formed the band in 1998. Troy has been a Queen since 2002, Joey since 2003, Alain since 2004, Mark (when it fits his schedule) has toured and recorded with QotSA on three albums since 2000. Nick was the bass player for six years. They've had a lot of guests, sure, but it's definately a band. *smb 01:55, 30 January 2007 (UTC) Just a correction regarding Era Vulgaris. Mark doesn't do the lead vocals on "Into The Hollow". That is Josh Homme. Also I think it might need checking if he did backing vocals on "Suture Up Your Future" as I don't think he did. And just something else, I think he briefly does backing vocals on "Sick, Sick, Sick". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.7.95.109 (talk) 11:24:22, August 19, 2007 (UTC)[reply]

lanegan's voice

[edit]

Is Lanegan a bass? His voice is very deep and gravelly. I just wondered.--88.105.24.84 15:19, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think he's listed on Wiki in a list of "Bass-Baritones".... I'm not an expert on the subject but I think he's better classified as a regular baritone. He used to have a pretty good range, but in the 80s tended to sing only at the top of it and lately he only sings at the bottom of it. 71.127.14.147 13:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another Album with Isobel Campbell

[edit]

Isobel Campbell has said numerous times that they are busy recording a new record. Can we include this in the Isobel Campbell section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.146.0.12

Changes

[edit]

I have made a couple of changes to the page. I am trying to get it a little more organized. I also included the new stuff about the Gutter Twins. Feel free to tell be what you think and any other info that needs to be added —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkwilliams1 (talkcontribs) 00:11, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop, what you're doing is bordering on vandalism...Red157 00:28, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How is that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkwilliams1 (talkcontribs) 13:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has many rules (A number of which are kinda' stupid) and when you continually try to do the same thing when it's wrong by those rules, it's essentially vandalism.Red157 19:49, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It may be awhile before I edit again. School work is kickin' in. I need to work on 2.1 and 2.2 under musical career. My plans are to have separate sections for Lanegan's solo work, QOTSA and for 1 song/brief work on others' albums and songs. I will include a blurb at the beginning for the Trees a with a link to that main article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkwilliams1 (talkcontribs) 14:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Congratulations on going for your first review, but you need to get references for sentences that include words like "successful", or anything that needs proof. I know the article isn't that long, but pull some of the paragraphs together, as reviewers don't like too much "white space". Good luck. :)--andreasegde (talk) 11:20, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Mark Lanegan/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review. Hi. This article isn't quite up to the GA criteria yet, so I'm going to call this an unsuccessful nomination and mark it accordingly. Some issues that need work...

  • The lead needs expansion, per WP:LEAD. In fact, it feels like there's potentially a lot more content that could be added to the entire article.
  • A lot of stuff needs citation... eg. the all the stuff in the Early life sectiona after ref 3, which quite clearly isn't common knowledge, needs citation)
  • Most of the musical career stuff just talks about the band's work and reads like a band article. This article is meant to be about Lanegan the person - what did he do in the context of those works? Flea (musician) and John Frusciante are good examples of what I mean.
  • Needs copyediting and checking for spelling/punctuation/grammar... eg. little things like [1].

Anyways, I'm happy to take another look at this after you've done some more work on it. Good luck. —Giggy 10:46, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate information

[edit]

"Lanegan struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol throughout his life but had been sober for over a decade at the time of his death."

The second part of this sentence is inaccurate. In "Devil in a coma", Lanegan clearly states that at the time of his COVID infection he was a permanent user of all sorts of pills he could get a hand on, probably mostly pain killers, sleeping pills etc. He's also stating that one reason why his hospitalization hit him so hard was that the doses they gave him there were wildly below what he was used to in his daily life. He in fact never overcame his addiction issues. 2A02:3037:605:9999:4456:5E49:8BE5:E20B (talk) 19:38, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
