Note

"Note: The falling blocks in Bowser's Kingdom in the Special Cup are similar to the Golden Diva's attack in Wario Land 4, when her large face is revealed and she smashes part of the floor as an attack, in the author of this note's opinion." ... what... the... hell...

Choosing number of laps?

From the "Gameplay" section: "The number of laps changed from 3 to a "recommended" amount of laps, depending on the size of the course, and the player could choose how many laps they would do in Vs. mode."

Is this true? I've never seen that option in versus mode . . . --Twilightsojourn 22:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

It's actually in the options section in the game, but it only affects versus mode. You can choose a number which will be used for all races or "recommended" which is 3 for most races, 7 in Baby Park, and I think 2 laps in one of the races. Outside versus mode, recommended is always used. - MTC 07:42, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Smiley faces?

My friend has the game and in the Grand Prix records, next to the the time for some circuits, it shows smiley faces. Does anyone know what this means? Some guy 21:52, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

You'd be better off checking somewhere like GameFAQs, this page is for discussion of the article, not the game itself. -- Steel 21:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
That means the record was obtained while playing co-op mode (2 players to one kart). - MTC 05:34, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Trivia Section

About the trivia section, some of the data is interesting, but most is simply too esoteric for a general peruser of the site. Except for a hardcore gamer, many people do not care about the appearance of Cheep Cheep in the final end scene. I would suggest deleting the trivia section entirely, perhaps moving some of the data into the Characters section. --Pseudolus42 15:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

There are several (supposedly unintentional) places in the game where you can cut corners. Near the final stretch in DK's level, you are able to jump off the gap if you can manage to powerslide tightly around the fence "barricading" the way. In Waluigi's Stadium, you can ramp over the warp pipes with the fake plants in them, and In Rainbow Road, on the twisty path before the cannon launch, you can hop the ledges by running straight off the track and onto the next curve (if done correctly, the player should seem to come up through the track). I deleted this from the triva section for seeming too much like a game guide. Jay32183 20:20, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
The trivia section has now been removed. Everything that was left was merely fancruft, so I felt it was safe to delete. Jay32183 20:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Bonus Disc

The article says that only those who preordered the game received the disk. However, I got it without preordering. -- VGF11 00:16, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Tracks section

I think it's a good idea to add descriptions of the tracks, but they could be a bit more encyclopedic, and things like "This is Mushroom Bridge turned evil" are just not neutral point-of-view. As I'm not good at writing these types of thing, I won't try to fix it myself, I'll just stick a NPOV template there. - MTC 11:07, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I completely rewrote the Mushroom Cup track descriptions from scratch. Did I do a good job being neutral? - Joshua368 23:06, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
The Mushroom Cup now looks good to me. - MTC 06:20, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
It still looks to me as though Wario Colosseum, Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road are unencyclopedia. Things like "Traumatic? Sure, but you're almost to the gold!" aren't needed on Wikipedia at all. Talking about how hard tracks are is also unecyclopedic and not needed on Wikipedia. Also to be noted is that the section is informal - not the best thing ever on Wikipedia. Make it more formal. Cipher (Yell) 12:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I fixed up the article a ton for the special cup and it looks pretty formal now. It used to look like a gaming magazine rather than an encyclopedia.Monkeys rule 99 17:10, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I edited the Special Cup section a bit, and now it seems to be neutral.LoganTheGeshrat 19

Still definite inappropriate tone, tagged it as such. Goodnightmush 02:59, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Any specifics for me to improve (in the first two segments, which are the only ones I wrote)? - Joshua368 05:10, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

And now somebody removed them all. Whee...? - Joshua368 15:31, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I tried to re-add them, but I cant do it right, can someone help me out? Those tracks are highly valuble information. EDIT- Ah screw it, some jerkwad just deleted it.

No, they're not important. It's info that belongs in a game guide. Nemu 01:55, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
This article needs serious help, but detailed descriptions of the tracks do not belong here. Pagrashtak 04:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Character listing

Hope you all don't mind; I changed the order of the characters into the order in which they appear on the character select screen. Feel free to revert if you wish. Also, Baby Mario has his own Wiki page now, so I changed Baby Mario into just Baby Mario. And I changed Baby Luigi into Baby Luigi. It should be easy to see why. Hardcore gamer 48 10:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Playable Characters

I added some detail on the originals from past versions and more detail, hope it helps Monkeys rule 99 22:18, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

All Cup Tour

I feel there should be something in the artical that mentions the All Cup Tour but I'm not sure where it should go.Azizza 21:15, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

ONLINE PLAY

I noticed that the article doesn't mention that this was one of the few games for Gamecube to have online play. Though I've never played it online myself, I have read in a magazine(I believe it was GMR) that a group of fans actually made a site all by themselves and without any development support, where you could link the Gamecube to and play online since Nintendo hadn't made a way to play online themselves. If this is already common knowledge amongst you other fans then ok, I was just wondering why it wasn't in the article. If not, then I'll try to find the magazine or somewhere on the web that says this and make a link to it. Link's Awakening 04:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Madstone Version?

What exactly is the "Madstone Version" (spelt as Verson on the actual article) of the game? Hardcore gamer 48 11:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree, what is this? Drumpler 12:32, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Edge

What's up with Edge's score? Retromaniac 17:00, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Waluigi Racer

I received the Waluigi Racer, but the game gave it to Luigi instead. 67.188.172.165 17:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

ADDENDUM by SHAFFNER: I believe it is more correct to state that only certain karts can be driven by certain drivers. For instance, the light-weight baby carts must be driven by smaller drivers such as the babies and can not be driven by Bowser or Donkey Kong. This took me a while to figure out too.

Move?

Are the exclamation marks supposed to be there? Tetrahedron93 19:33, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep, the double exclamation marks are part of the game's title, see the boxart. Tucker001 19:16, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Brushing up

I think there's quite a few sections lacking from this page.

1. Controls - If this game were Need for Speed or Halo, I could understand. But, as Mario is exclusively Nintendo, why not include the Gamecube controls?

2. Item Summary - You know, some brief sentences describing what each item does.

3. Character, Car and Track Summaries - Just a few lists showing the name of each character, track, ect. and a summary.

And finally, I think the gameplay needs more organized section such as "Battle Mode", "Grand Prix" and the like. Do you guys think these sections would be helpful?

Pcboy 16:07, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

A section on controls would be game guide/manual info, and isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Similarily, lists of items, characters and tracks would be listcruft. There is already an article for characters, and the tracks are there in a table. Separate sections for Grand Prix and Battle Mode would be good though. Geoff B 16:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Quite a fine line between actual guides and mere info, wouldn't you say? Well, I suppose that's why we have fansites, huh?
Anyways, I would be more than happy to organize the gameplay section real quick since if it's agreeable.

Not Really 7th best selling GC game?

The article says "As of October 2006, the game is the seventh best-selling Nintendo GameCube title," but in the source I believe it is only speaking of that month, not in general. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dude902 (talkcontribs) 23:29, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

So fix it. The Prince (talk) 07:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

No its the 7th best selling game in Australia, thats what it wrong with it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.135.250 (talk) 08:17, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Outdated Image?

The picture under the gameplay section isn't very recent. It's not like the final game at all. Dude902 (talk) 23:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

So fix it. The Prince (talk) 07:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Gameplay Image is Pre-Release

This image is not a screenshot of the gameplay of the final release, only the pre-release version. This image is not from the final version or seen in it. Please include a screenshot of the full version's gameplay, not one from a pre-release version. The full release is the version that was available to consumers, not the pre-release version. Please, do not ask me or say "so fix it", I do not own the game, as I have only rented it (5 times), and I am currently not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chykka207 (talkcontribs) 01:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

The Image is Heavily outdated.--Chykka207 (talk) 01:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

So basically you came here to whine and ask others to do the work for you? You don't have to own the game to find an image on the web and write up a fair use rationale for it. Maybe you could even find a public domain image to use, if only you bothered to look.Asher196 (talk) 03:38, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Failed "good article" nomination

Upon its review on March 23, 2008, this good article nomination was quick-failed because it:

contains cleanup banners including, but not limited to, {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, {{NPOV}}, {{unreferenced}}, etc, or large numbers of {{fact}}, {{clarifyme}}, {{huh}}, or similar tags

thus making it ineligible for good article consideration.

This article did not receive a thorough review, and may not meet other parts of the good article criteria. I encourage you to remedy this problem (and any others) and resubmit it for consideration. If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to have it reassessed. Thank you for your work so far.— Epass (talk) 11:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
