Not enough content was merged to this page

[edit]

When List of supporting Harry Potter characters was merged here, not enough content was merged. For some characters, such as Vernon Dursley, the description here is far too short (261 words on that page, now only 18 words). Kk.urban (talk) 16:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Surname, First Name format

[edit]

Hello! I'm wondering whether we could format the list with a Surname, First Name model. This was proposed back in 2007 and at least one editor was supportive (the proposal is a little ways down the post).

Here's how it would look:

I just think it looks a lot nicer and makes more logical sense in a list organized by surname. Wafflewombat (talk) 04:04, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It seems this was done without consensus. I imagine surname first goes against the manual of style. Seasider53 (talk) 13:16, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

Hello! I propose merging Dumbledore's Army into List of Harry Potter characters. The DA page has barely any real-world context and is therefore, I believe, lacking in notability. Other than the Synopsis section, the DA page is basically just a list of characters. I think it could be comfortably merged, although some of the longer character descriptions, such as Cho Chang, might benefit from being trimmed slightly so they are closer in length to the other character descriptions on List of Harry Potter characters.

Please offer your thoughts! Wafflewombat (talk) 00:55, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have performed the merge. Wafflewombat (talk) 21:18, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bold text

[edit]

Hello. I wanted to offer the idea of using bold text for names listed on the page. I suggested this previously, and had a conversation about it with Facu-el Millo. I'm curious what others think. It's not the biggest deal, but I do think it improves readability of the page and makes it easier to navigate, especially as the page expands. I added the bold text to a few entries so you can see what it looks like. Check out this revision. Scroll down past the edits to the heading Revision as of 04:43, 19 August 2024. There, you'll see how the bolded names look. Please let me know your thoughts. Wafflewombat (talk) 04:58, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal: Cedric Diggory

[edit]

Hello again. I would like to propose that Cedric Diggory be merged into List of Harry Potter characters. Currently, the Cedric Diggory page does not establish notability. There is very little real-world context, most of the content is plot summary, and there is no content describing the creation of the character.

A Google Scholar search does not yield much content that could establish notability of the topic: most of the articles mentioning Cedric appear to be focused on how his death impacts Harry. It looks like various writers have analyzed his death as a plot device, instead of analyzing his character. I'm not seeing much on Google Books or JSTOR either.

Please offer your thoughts! Wafflewombat (talk) 16:27, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IIRC, the life or death of Cedric Diggory is central to the plot of the stage play, which deals with parallel universes: in the universes where Cedric wasn't killed by Pettigrew, Neville was killed before he had the occasion to kill Nagini, Voldemort and Snape survived (the latter as Headmaster of Hogwarts) but not Harry; Albus Severus Potter, on returning from the past, finds himself without a family in a universe where he never existed, etc. I'd say that Cedric is a rather secondary character in the novels but that he's central to the stage play. IMHO, without him the stage play would hardly have had any substance. — Tonymec (talk) 15:56, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this message. I searched Google for "cedric diggory cursed child" and found a few articles which might establish some notability for the character. I haven't read through them yet, but I'll post them here.

Hey Tonymec, do you feel there's anything that can be added to the Cursed Child section on the Cedric page? I trimmed the descriptions of his role in the novels to a more reasonable length, to see how it would affect the overall length of the page. I haven't read or seen Cursed Child, but if he's an important character then we probably need more detail in that section. Wafflewombat (talk) 19:41, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge per nom. The subject, even with a few additional sources, are mostly just sources saying the same thing about the character: That his death was sad and the Cursed Child play was controversial for its alterations to his character. These can be easily summarized at this article with little to no issue. Granted, this article itself needs a lot of work, but the amount of information that needs merging is so minimal it shouldn't be an issue. Has one ever considered Magneton? Removal of minor characters after feedback

[edit]

Hey again. Just letting everyone know that I removed a bunch of minor characters after feedback from another editor. You can review the feedback here. Please don't hesitate to offer your thoughts on the feedback in general and/or my decision to remove these entries. Wafflewombat (talk) 23:23, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Minerva McGonagall

[edit]

Hello. I just want to know, wether any of you want Minerva McGonagall to have her own page. She's pretty fun to read about, and we could mention the late Maggie Smith.
