Declaration

[edit]

Maakhir State *has* been declared. http://www.markacadeey.com/maqaalo/maqaal_abdalla_hirad_20070811.htm

The Warsangeli clan (a Harti clan related to the Majerteen who dominate Puntland) have been largely alienanted by the Puntland administration, and are probably sick of the Somaliland and Puntland administrations claiming their territory.

The Dulbahante south of them will probably declare their own state soon, Darwiishland.

Like it or lump it, it's there. --Ingoman 19:22, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well call me picky, but is "Markacadeey.com" really the most reliable source you can find? Just because someone declares something on "some website" does not make it notable. TastyCakes (talk) 04:53, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

[edit]

I'm moving the article to Maakhir. We don't need "state" for disambiguation purposes, as "Maakhir" already redirects to the current article. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, fits with the other Somali states too. --Ingoman 18:02, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map?

[edit]

Any www site having a reliable map of Maakhir's area of control and area that it claims? The current map in the article (by me) uses a map floating in the Internet and is at least approximately ok, but I doubt it is fully correct. --Drieakko 11:26, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well not really, because there is a discrepancy between areas Maakhir definitely controls, areas contested between Maakhir and Puntland or Somaliland or all three at once. The status of Mait and Erigavo is a big question mark for instance, and Maakhir claiming Bosaso (they don't even on their own map) has largely been limited to the overzealous. Personally I do not believe the map borders posted on laasqoorey.net are unreasonable, and it is entirely possible that Mait and Erigavo are under Maakhir control right now. --Ingoman 23:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The map shown here is not fully correct,Erigavo belongs to Maakhir, and there is no dispute on this. Alihawar (talk) 04:09, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Border disputes

[edit]

Article titles the case with a few towns specifically as "Border disputes". It must however be noted that all borders of Maakhir are in dispute as both Somaliland and Puntland claim its entire area. Thus, in the situation where all borders are disputed, we need to pick some other title for a chapter that discusses areas under concrete struggle. --Drieakko 05:25, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend removal of Maakhir and Northland State articles from Wikipedia

[edit]

I recommend removal of Maakhir and Northland State articles from Wikipedia. After studying further the links provided by mr Ingoman who is also solely responsible for the contribution of these two unverified phantom states. I have yet to see one neutreal realistic article showing the existanse of ' Maakhir ' or ' Northland which is not even Somali.

Ingoman seems very biased and carried away and I strongly feel its not suitable for Wikipedia to have information so biased. Its very unappropriate.

Thank you Igor akb80 (talk)

I found a reference that wasn't Garowe Online (assuming Garowe Online is one you find problematic) http://allafrica.com/stories/200806271202.html -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

The source is not good enough. I believe certain wikipedia users are imposing their own view on these articles which I find very unfortunate. The source is still from a biased website AllAfrica just copied it... and you know it

Igor akb80 (talk)

What's an unbiased source for you Igor? Maakhir and Northland are largely euphemisms for the Warsangeli and Dulbahante clan administrations, which decided to formalize their autonomous status in 2007 in opposition to Majerteen incursions into their territory (which the Majerteen ostensibly claim as part of Puntland). --Ingoman (talk) 14:59, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have yet to see a trustworthy source of this nonsense ' Northland ' which I believe only exists in your imagination and ego user Ingoman. The whole 'Northland' issue is ridicoulus, its not even Somali way of naming regions Igor akb80 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 18:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]

In favor of removing them

[edit]

-- I am a Somali and I did an extensive search through different sites both mainstream and non-mainstream sites and the only areas I have found Maakhir mentioned was on the sites which claimed its existence to start with. furthermore, the territories of this "states" are preparing to hold the Puntland elections for the 2009 Puntland Presidential elections. Northland doesn't exist outright, either physically or online, and Maakhir only exists in the sites of those who want to create it (via sites owned by Maakhir Supporters). I tried to be as unbiased as possible and have found no credible source anywhere... Last but not least, several members of the clans which purportedly owns the state of Maakhir and Northland are running for presidential election in the 2009 Puntland elections which add further evidence that these "states" are still part of Puntland and its inhabitants still consider themselves citizens of Puntland. --Samantar Abdirisaq (talk) 08:49, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
