Spelling
[edit]Is it true that Matmata is also spelled Matamata? I was just there a few months ago and saw no local references to this alternative spelling. Could you cite a source for this? Acarvin 21:19, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Matmata
[edit]The English spelling doesn't really matter. The Tunisians would spell it with Arabic characters.
The 1967 discovery date seems erroneous. I visited Matmata with friends in December 1965 while living in Tunisia with the Peace Corps. The hotel was already there as pictured, complete with a bar serving Cokes. They were in a fridge but not cold since there was no electricity there then. Karrickjrd 03:56, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Mâtmata, Tunisia → Matmata, Tunisia – The name of the city was never written with a hat on the first "a", it doesn't even fit the pronunciation anyway. — abjiklam (talk · stalk) 23:32, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

- Support Britannica says Matmata (Maṭmāṭah). That certainly does not support this diacritic. Kauffner (talk) 12:31, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- Support. I've read many sources about this location (having visited there in early 2010), and "Matmata" is clearly the most common spelling. --Elonka 16:13, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
