The Louis Ducat

[edit]

The discussion of the Louis Ducat should be clarified, or possibly removed. Both general references[1] and specialized studies[2] fail to list ducats struck by Louis II. The "Dutch ducats, bearing the impression of an armed figure" referred to in the article correspond most closely to those first struck in the 1500s. Did some of these show Louis II; if so which ones? In any event if it is felt to be appropriate to discuss the gold coinage of Louis II, its most significant aspects were his imitations of French gold coins and his extravagantly designed heaume d'or.[3]EcuPadic (talk) 19:52, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the coat of arms: I know that there is discussion whether the earliest coat of arms of the county of Flanders (i.e. at the time of Philip, Count of Flanders) was armed and langued sable (= black) or gules (= red). Probably sable. However, during the life of Louis II of Male, the discussion is settled. The Armorial Gelre (folio page 80 recto) of that time clearly shows a tongue and claws in gules. So I will replace the image Image:Blason_Comte-de-Flandre.svg with Image:Blason_Nord-Pas-De-Calais.svg which is the same, but armed and langued gules. – Adhemar 15:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Louis II of FlandersLouis II, Count of Flanders — There is no reason to keep the article inconsistent with other articles in Category:Counts of Flanders. Even the article about his father is titled Louis I, Count of Flanders. Surtsicna (talk) 15:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support There is a well-established Wikipedia convention that rulers below the rank of king should include their title in the title (if that makes sense). See WP:NCROY. Whether this convention should be changed is debatable , but would be a major change which would affect many articles, it would need serious discussion.
