About the article's title
[edit]@Rachel Helps (BYU) and Robertsky: I did read the discussion concerning this article's creation before moving it out of draftspace, but intentionally moved it to the title Log cabin quilting block. This seems like a better title to me, as a natural disambiguation, and matches the bold text in the lead sentence better. I'm also unsure cabin needs to be capitalized. This isn't a formal contestation of the move; I would, however, love to hear your input on this! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:57, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Might be good to involve @Schazjmd as well. – robertsky (talk) 22:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm ambivalent on whether "quilt block" should be a title disambiguator or part of the title. Log Cabin is the proper name of the pattern, and the preponderence of books and journal articles that I've looked at use that capitalization. I do think quilt block is preferable to quilting block for pedantic reasons: pieced blocks are used to construct a quilt top, but quilting refers to the process of stitching the layers together. As an aside, technically, the quilt top doesn't even have to be pieced, but that's what most people think of when they hear "quilt". Schazjmd (talk) 23:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment; I've adjusted the capitalization in the article with that in mind. I'm also now veering towards ambivalence given that the change to Log Cabin quilt block would now just be a removal of the parentheses. If the article is moved, however, it would also need to be updated at Log cabin (disambiguation), where I've just added a link. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 00:12, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- oops, sorry TechnoSquirrel69, I didn't realize that your moving the page to "Log Cabin quilt block" was evidence of your disagreement with the title "Log Cabin (quilt block)" (I put the page move request in before you started this conversation). I also like "(quilt block)" as a disambiguator and I may end up following a similar pattern if I or others create pages for other types of quilt blocks. Something like "Anvil (quilt block)" seems like a clear and helpful page title that follows that pattern. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 17:37, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, sounds good to me! No worries about missing that I'd moved the page. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 18:18, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
