List
[edit]- Is it possible to reorganize the list into a table (with establishment year, area, position, IUCN category etc.)? Colchicum 14:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that is a good idea - however, that list is very outdated, I don't think it can be used as a basis for that - which is a pita, I could have written a quick parser for that otherwise. Now I have to write a web-based... thing to get information from [1] (detail view is here). Unfortunately it seems they haven't joined X-Tee (X-Road, Estonian Governmental network or I could get the same thing with just few SOAP queries. -- Sander Säde 15:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Here we go - this is the data from the website in auto-generated table. However, two things - any idea of a template to display coordinates correctly? And that data isn't too fresh as well, it is from 2004. All suggestions are most welcome, of course...-- Sander Säde 19:10, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it should look like {{coord|59|00|00|N|27|00|00|E|display=inline}} or {{coord|59.000|-27.000|display=inline}} or {{coord|59.000|N|27.000|E|display=inline}}. Colchicum 18:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Any ideas how to get those coordinates from website/table to match required format? They are in L-EST format, [2] -- Sander Säde 19:10, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I see. I'll try to make some conversion template. It would also be useful for RDNAP and other similar systems. I wonder whether anything of this sort has been implemented on Estonian or Dutch Wikipedias. Colchicum 19:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Here is some tool [3]. I am not sure that it is really helpful, but it is better than nothing. Colchicum 20:15, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm, can you give please an example of an actual conversion - it uses HTTP GET, so URL would be good. Ie., I am unsure what to insert exactly as the required parameters... [4] gives me a location NW of Norway, for example. -- Sander Säde 11:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that's why I am not sure if it is useful for our practical purposes as it is. As to the parameters, here they are: First Standard Parallel 58, Second Standard Parallel 59.3333333333333, Central Meridian 24, Latitude of Origin 57.5175539305556, Longitude of Origin 24, Easting False Origin 500000, Northing False Origin 6375000. For me it works accurately enough. Colchicum 14:51, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- That worked - I added the conversion and looks like all coordinates are correct. Yay! I must admit that the table looks very good now. Wish we could get IUCN categories and missing info (I think we are missing about 20 nature reserves). -- Sander Säde 15:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, great. Now is this the case that each of the reserves (even Alam-Pedja) is restricted to a single parish of a single county? IUCN categories are certainly needed, yes, as well as official websites. Another problem is that people here on Wikipedia like changing some rows in various tables according to their data whenever they see some discrepancy. As some of the data, especially land area, don't appear stable, it is worth adding references to every row and clarifying how outdated they are. Colchicum 19:51, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

- No, they are not in a single parish - but that is what is listed in EELIS. It isn't clarified, but I think it means the location of the center (as in visitors and research etc).
- Many areas do not have websites - and I am unsure about IUCN status, as Estonia joined IUCN officially only this March [5].
- As for references - if the area has coordinates, then it is from [6], if not then [7].
- What worries me more are landscape protection areas. What is their status internationally? Should they be included to nature reserves or not? -- Sander Säde 20:24, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I think that a more general list of Estonian protected areas will not harm us here. The distinction between them is often elusive. What matters internationally is roughly covered in the IUCN classification. Colchicum 20:32, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- It is unusually calm here for an Estonia-related topic :) No "superior editors" and the like so far. BTW, here is a stub about Sarmatic mixed forests. The term doesn't seem to have any currency except in the WWF classification, but the biome itself deserved much attention. It is Estonia-related in a way and could be expanded. Probably an article on Central European floristic province is also worth creating, as well as an article on Rhinanthus osiliensis (et:Saaremaa robirohi), endemic to Saaremaa. Colchicum 21:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it is calm here... but elsewhere Soviets-Forever! have drafted up more hate-filled piles of lies. Guess I should be thankful for a few relatively calm days when I could actually contribute, instead of being forced to feel stressed and under attack.
- Do you have any idea where to get that IUCN classification? It seems that official Estonian sources have not been updated for ages.
- What do you suggest for landscape protection areas? Perhaps move whole thing to List of protected areas of Estonia - or add them here to a separate table?
- -- Sander Säde 14:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Also, found more up to date list here, alas, no coordinates or dates. I'll see if I can combine the two... but tomorrow. -- Sander Säde 20:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Landscape protection areas
[edit]I had modified my tool a bit and got the list of landscape protection areas quite easily, see below. However, the table needs cleanup (not all locations have correct wikilinks, in some names there are words that need to be translated to English etc). I don't think I can do much with this today, as I am currently down with the flu - and don't want to spend too much time away from the bed, sorry. -- Sander Säde 14:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I'd suggest to integrate all the tables into List of protected areas of Estonia and to add a column for the classification (nature reserve/landscape reserve/national park...), which can eventually change, as far as I see. As for IUCN – no idea, unfortunately. Well, it is not urgent. Hope you recover quickly. Colchicum 16:26, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- I joined all three types into one table and moved the page. However, it seems that {{coord}} is misbehaving - and I haven't fixed any wikilinks/redirects as well. -- Sander Säde 17:35, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
