Suggestion: Consecutive starts by position - Combining positions

I'd like to propose that we combine several of the positions listed under the Consecutive starts by position section.

  • Defensive end, Weakside defensive end, and Strongside defensive end -> Defensive end
  • Defensive tackle, Weakside defensive tackle, Strongside defensive tackle -> Defensive tackle
  • Linebacker, Right inside linebacker, Left inside linebacker, Middle linebacker -> Inside/Middle linebacker
  • Weakside linebacker, strongside linebacker, Left outside linebacker, Right outside linebacker -> Outside linebacker

I can see the argument for leaving inside linebacker and middle linebacker separate, but the rest I don't see a good reason to keep separate.

In my opinion, differentiating between weakside and strongside no longer makes sense. NFL stats are also not tracked in a way that differentiates between strong and weakside, and the terminology is outdated given how players line up nowadays and that strongside changes from play to play. We don't differentiate between cornerbacks who play one side of the field (Richard Sherman) and others that don't. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:22, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
