Order of the Ordre

[edit]

First, I think it was a good idea to split this list from the main article. However, I'm not sure the chronological order of this list is helpful to the reader. I suggest a sortable table along the lines of:

Name!!Rank!!Year
EliotT. S. Eliot||Commandeur||1960
AndreouConstantine Andreou||Officier||2005
NilesDavid Niles||Chevalier||1984
etc||etc||etc

which renders as:

Name Rank Year
T. S. Eliot Commandeur 1960
Constantine Andreou Officier 2005
David Niles Chevalier 1984
etc etc etc

The one thing I'm not sure about in this scheme is in which natural order (the table first appears before a sort button is pressed) the table should be written. Michael Bednarek (talk) 04:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed table

[edit]

There hasn't been any opposition to the idea of a table, so, based on the idea above, I came up with this:

Table now at List of members of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Comments

[edit]

I left out the two duplicate names (Marcel Marceau & Mark Podwal) as every Commandeur & Officier has to have a lower rank for five years.

I'm not particularly keen on the colour coding, especially the bronze.

Any comments before I put this table on the article page? Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the bronze colour to the one used in medal tables (see: MedalBronze), and I think it's a bit better. I'm going to transfer this table tomorrow to the article page. Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:10, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now moved. Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:55, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From the original page

[edit]

These names were, correctly, dropped when the list got transferred from the main article Ordre des Arts et des Lettres to this satellite article. However, instead of hiding it as comments in the Wiki markup of the List article, I think it should be presented here on the talk page so people may feel encouraged to add the necessary details for individuals and add to the list.

These members must be categorised and referenced before listing

I managed to screw this up

[edit]

Sorry, but am not familiar with this template and how it works. Please assist and undo my (unintentional) mess. Thank you. Max Mathews|style="background:#CC9966"|Chevalier||1989 7&6=thirteen (talk) 20:07, 13 November 2010 (UTC) Stan[reply]

Quentin Blake

I notice that while the table only lists the above as chevalier 2004, his biographic entry says he was promoted to officier in 2007. I am not qualified to edit this into the table myself.Rupert Butler (talk)
