Formatting suggestion
[edit]See List of crossings of the Connecticut River. I find that kind of format rather useful, though I didn't create it. I've seen, or created, other articles in a similar format because I like it. I hesitate to do it here because I don't know whose toes I might be treading on, and because I live nowhere near Europe. - Denimadept (talk) 20:43, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that visually, that format is better. For now, I am busy but trying to translate all of the details and wikify the bridges to their english wikipedia names, whether that is in german, english, hungarian, or what have you. Also, I have really no idea how to go about doing that type of formatting, but if someone wants to start that it would be great. I will just concentrate on standardizing the information out there for now. --DerRichter (talk) 00:04, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I can do it for you, but I think it best to wait until you're done with what you're doing first. Otherwise, you'd have to come to a stopping point, tell me so I can do my thing, then resume and have to maintain the new formatting. If you want to do it that way, we can, but I need to know what you want to do since you're doing the hard part. My bit would be relatively mechanical. - Denimadept (talk) 14:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have placed a beginning for what I have in mind in User:Denimadept/Sandbox. - Denimadept (talk) 20:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- That format looks really good, actually. I just have minor changes to make throughout the whole article, and little free time to do it in. But if you want to make your sandbox like that with the information that is given now and then replace it, I can make the changes afterwards. Also, I am going to work on an image for the page using Image map tutorial. --DerRichter (talk) 22:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

- To answer your note on my Talk page, I've been told that if there is additional information about a crossing, it should be in the article for that crossing. I'm not sure what to do if there's only a little blurb, not enough for a whole article. There used to be a "Notes" column on the List of crossings of the Connecticut River article, but User:VerruckteDan removed it. See Talk:List of crossings of the Connecticut River#Notes column gone! for his reasons. - Denimadept (talk) 22:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Okay that precedent sounds good to me, then. --DerRichter (talk) 23:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Also, try List of crossings of the Cuyahoga River or the one for the Connecticut River, or for that matter, List of crossings of the Charles River. See the link near the bottom named "Map of all coordinates". Click it, it's kind of fun. I started with the List of crossings of the Columbia River but haven't finished. I did do some of the work on List of crossings of the Willamette River. Did a little of the Ohio River too. The coords plotting is fun. - Denimadept (talk) 05:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
As far as I know, using the German for "bridge" is fine, but it's your call. - Denimadept (talk) 05:35, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yea when its the official name for one of the bridges, or its in Germany or Austria, Brücke works fine for me. I just didnt want to keep it like that when it is something as simple as a streebridge or pedestrain bridge. --DerRichter (talk) 17:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- oic. See how I handled that sort of bridge in List of crossings of the Cuyahoga River. What do you think? - Denimadept (talk) 17:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yea do you mean the non-proper nouns with the italics? That looks good and differentiates them well. --DerRichter (talk) 17:47, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I'm talking about. - Denimadept (talk) 18:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Translation
[edit]Would it be a safe statement that "kraftwerk" is equivalent to "dam"? Or does "kraftwerk" require a hydroelectric power station in this context? - Denimadept (talk) 20:24, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- The term "Kraftwerk" simply means "powerplant", without specifying which kind of powerplant this is. Lost Boy (talk) 09:47, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I understood the literal translation. Thing is, a power plant on a river is likely to be using the river, or why is it a crossing? - Denimadept (talk) 12:57, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Coordinates
[edit]Please add coordinates to these crossings if you know where the crossings are. I have no idea, generally. - Denimadept (talk) 14:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Ferry crossings
[edit]Heres a fun fact, I am currently editing from Budapest, on the banks of the Danube River. I know first hand that ferries are a main way of crossing the river. In some places the ferries are listed as part of the highway, much like a bridge would be. I was wondwering if these should be included. It would not be easy to get all of them, because I doubt there is much information about some of them online. Just a thought. Patchy1Talk To Me! 22:03, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, they should be included. When I rebuilt this article as a wikitable, I included everything which was present, but I didn't try to verify or validate anything. You'll note that it says it's incomplete. The article I modeled on, List of crossings of the Connecticut River, has two active ferry entries. If I or others find some inactive ferries, they'll be added. - Denimadept (talk) 22:05, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- BTW, I was wrong. I did validate one thing, at least. I looked for and found the source of the river to the best accuracy I could. - Denimadept (talk) 22:09, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Upside down?
[edit]I was just looking at this again. In other such articles, the order of the entries is from the mouth of the river, or closest to that mouth, proceeding back to the source. We seem to have this reversed here. Any thoughts about changing this? - Denimadept (talk) 14:38, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Denimadept: Maybe you are right, that might be more logical. I wouldn't oppose if you were willing to put the work in! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:13, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- @MSGJ: I could do it, sure. If I remember correctly, I rebuilt this in the first place from a list. - Denimadept (talk) 20:25, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- I have reversed the order of the list. There are just a few in Germany that I'm still working on, so these are not reversed yet. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:12, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Feedback
[edit]Hi all. I'm looking for comments/feedback on what I've done in List of crossings of the Danube#Hungary. I have transferred the data to Wikidata (the pen icon gives you a convenient link to edit there) and also added a photo of each bridge. Like it? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:13, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- List of crossings of the Danube#Hungary: The oldest bridge in Budapest has wrong date, 1949 instead of 1849, see Széchenyi_Chain_Bridge — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.63.99.53 (talk • contribs)
- The bridge was rebuilt and reopened in 1949 — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 04:36, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- To expand on the above. If it is the same bridge which was repaired, then we should change it to 1849 (this can be done by changing the preferred value on Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Q465534)). But if the bridge was replaced by a new bridge, then I think 1949 is correct. We could possibly include the original bridge in a separate entry in the table and add a note that it was replaced. Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:49, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
Unidentifiable bridges
[edit]Towards the bottom of the list we have a large number of bridges without even coordinates, and I am struggling to identify these. I will match up whichever ones I can, but then I am just going to remove the rest. I think a pair of coordinates is the minimum amount of information that is required here. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:42, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- I have removed the following bridges from the table until they can be correctly identified with a location — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:06, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

New bridge south of Paks and close to Kalocsa in Hungary
[edit]Just completed June 6, 2024 with the following distance from the mouth: 1520.446km. It is already in the Hungarian Wiki as "Tomori Pal Hid". Not sure how to edit this, so someone else has to add it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.225.143.94 (talk • contribs)
- I've added Pál Tomori Bridge (Q99529095) in the right place. Just need to add the details of the bridge to Wikidata and then it will display here — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:26, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
