"Xxxxx Commune" vs. "gmina Xxxxx"
[edit]I noticed that there are two different ways of referring to a Polish municipality/commune on this list. Very few of them actually have an article. (Most existing articles are associated with the main city of the commune.) Which one is standard, anyway? Backspace 20:38, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Commune is quite often used as a translation of gmina, but IMO it isn't quite common enough to be called standard, and in any case isn't a very useful translation (I think most English speakers would be more familiar with other meanings of the word, which could make it misleading). Since this list obviously needs making uniform, my proposal would be to leave names of the form Gmina Xxx untranslated, and (in cases where there is no separate gmina article) to direct the links to the corresponding town article. Any other views? Kotniski 07:53, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- In the light of the above, and lack of expressed opposition, I've made the list uniform based on the "Gmina Xxx" convention. I believe I've fixed all the existing links (using redirects). In fact there are now more blue links than before, since some articles were 'hiding' as Gmina Xx.--Kotniski 19:01, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Reconstruction
[edit]Having bot-created stub articles for all missing gminas, I am now reconstructing this list to eliminate errors and provide more information. To keep the page size manageable, I am splitting the list into subpages, one per initial letter. (Note diacritics are ignored for alphabetical ordering purposes, since this is English Wikipedia). The list would probably look better in the form of a table though... --Kotniski (talk) 21:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
