[edit]I suggest we also include current year stats in brackets beside the career total, but I defer to the group for consensus.Juve2000 (talk) 00:55, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
Regular and post-season combined list
[edit]Hey @Randy Kryn, regarding your revert of my removal of the combined regular and post season stats section, I wanted to start a discussion here.
Out of all the statistics pages from Template:NFL lists, only two of them contain a combined list between the regular and post season stats (the other being List of National Football League career passing completions leaders). Nobody in the media uses those for comparison as regular and post-season stats are always kept separate when comparing players against one another. I'm unaware of the major stat tracking websites containing any combined lists as well. The combined stats are just not a good comparison tool and I've rarely ever heard combined totals referenced. To respond to your edit summary, just because something has been a certain way for a while doesn't mean it should stay.
I wanted to ask why you believe these two lists of combined stats should remain. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. The stats are prominently mentioned in the articles leads, the lists have been on the pages for a long-time, editors keep them updated, and I for one check them out every week during the NFL season to see Brady's record setting endeavors. Obviously, due to longevity of the present arrangement of the article, popular and viewed items. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:28, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- What makes you think that it's popular? I understand they may have been a part of the article for a long time, but a stat that's not normally tracked or mentioned isn't notable to include in my opinion. It would lend credence to notability if stat tracking websites had a spot in which they track the combined totals instead of just separate totals. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:48, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Some major news outlets have covered the passing yards stat, looking towards Brady passing the 100,000 yards total mark, and others have as well. Plus longetivity of inclusion and the stats staying power in the lead of both articles. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:56, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm only seeing one story (reposted on a couple sites) from July about how Brady may break 100,000 total yards and Statmuse. There are a couple other offhand stories here and there about Brady passing someone, but there's stories about all of Brady's stats nowadays. Lots of sites post obscure Brady stats as clickbait now. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:03, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- StatMuse is mostly just a database using AI for user's natuaral language stats questions. It's pretty indiscriminate, so wouldn't use it determine if it's WP:UNDUE or not for page content. —Bagumba (talk) 06:47, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Seems like a good source. And as I've added below, the page titles in question do nothing to limit the inclusion of these long-term charts. Randy Kryn (talk) 06:54, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

- I think List of National Football League career playoff passing completions leaders could be a valid standalone list per WP:LISTN. At which point, a combined list would be awkward to have randomly dumped in this regular season list, and I doubt that it would meet LISTN.—Bagumba (talk) 02:01, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- The mentions here and at the other page (this page gets 40 views a day while the passing yards gets much more, and notice that neither is limited by title to regular season, List of National Football League career passing completions leaders is an inclusive title and maybe the 'regular season' mention in the leads should be expanded instead of diminishing the pages) seem fine and have been accepted long-term. Nothing broken, and building another article would be an addition but not a reason to remove this stat and chart from this and the passing yards pages (especially if done for that goal in mind). Isn't StatMuse a reputable source? Randy Kryn (talk) 06:20, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
Isn't StatMuse a reputable source
: It's reliable for its content. However, per WP:ONUS, something being verifiable does not mean it's necessarily included. That's determined by consensus, which can be detrermined here. I'd put more weight if the list was on a site like pro-football-reference.com, which is curated by human editors. Even better if a few reliable sources mention the grouping in prose, meeting WP:DUE. —Bagumba (talk) 06:59, 6 August 2022 (UTC)- Consensus would mean a full discussion bringing in other editors from the sports wikiprojects and the passing page and more, maybe in a full RfC. I do not see how leaving the stats where they've been in two pages which are titled broadly enough to include them (and they are mentioned in the leads, not just as unusual or undue trivia add ons deep into the page) harms the encyclopedia. Leaving them as they've been for a long time improves and continues to enhance the encyclopedia. If anything an expansion of the misleading opening lead sentence would seem in order. Randy Kryn (talk) 07:17, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Why would we need to bring in editors from other sports WikiProjects? Hey man im josh (talk) 11:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Actually all that's needed here is to keep the edited first sentences in order to reflect the page titles, as the rest of the text does. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:33, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
